The combination of the fiasco surrounding his failed hire at Tennessee in 2017 and Ohio State’s defensive struggles in 2018 seemed to hinder him as a coaching candidate during this most recent hiring cycle. There were no signs Schiano was a serious contender for any of the open positions, although the one job where it seemed he may have had some traction - Temple - is now open again after Manny Diaz’s abrupt departure to take over at Miami.
