Five-star 2027 cornerback Joshua Dobson will return to campus this weekend. Tennessee made the most out of getting him to Knoxville for the UAB game, and we said at the time, it would not surprise us to see him back for a big game at some point. Getting another look at the program and the atmosphere will go a long way for the Vols as they look to continue to solidify themselves as a strong contender in this one.

Volquest caught up with the top-rated cornerback in the 2027 cycle, and long-time Tennessee target Joshua Dobson to get his thoughts on Knowles being the new DC on Rocky Top.

“The first thought process for me when I saw that come through, ‘I was like, dang, that is big-time,'”, Dobson told Volquest. “I remember that I was able to get on the phone with Coach Knowles back when he came to Penn State, and I got introduced to him, and I got to know him more, and I loved everything about him. I love that hire for them. I am just interested to see who he brings in with him or if he keeps the current staff because I like Coach ET (Earnest Thomas III) and everything he has going on and Coach Martinez.”

Dobson has paid close attention to Knowles track record, and he is aware of the top defensive backs he has coached over the years, including guys recently like David Igbinosun, Lathan Ransom, Caleb Downs, and Denzel Burke, among others. The five-star says this jumps out in a big way.

“It jumps out in a big way, obviously,” Dobson said of Knowles success of recruiting and developing high level players from both high school and the transfer portal. “Because my final goal is to get to the next level, and that is one big way I can get there. Coach Knowles knows what he is doing. He is an extremely smart, defensive minded coach. I can’t wait to get up there and meet him in-person.”

Dobson was most recently in Knoxville for a visit earlier this fall when Tennessee hosted UAB, and he left impressed with the Vols at the time.

“What makes them one of my top schools is that they check all three of my boxes,” Dobson said at the time. “That is family atmosphere, on and off the field, development, and winning. They are doing all of that right now, so I am going to keep talking to them.”
