Like this past season the results would have been much different if we could have stayed healthy. Losing a lineman or a receiver here or there is normal. Next year if the str. And conditioning program improves a great deal and we keep our starters on the field we will beat Florida and Ga. Again. And will not lose to South Carolina and Vandy. Just don't think this is talked about enough and we keep harping on Butch and Snoop.

You think we're the only team that got beat up?

This sort of sunshine pumping goes on around all programs, because they all deal with injuries.

New QB replacing 3 year starter Dobbs,
Kamara and Hurd gone. No one proven behind Kelly.
Josh Malone gone, JJ only 'proven' receiver
Croom gone at TE, Ethan Wolfe only proven TE

JRM, Sutton not here any more (although they didnt play much this year but not having them is one of the reason we played so bad)
Derek Barnett won't be here. That is 'ALL TIME SACK LEADER' in school history.

With all these pieces missing, even without any significant injury, do you really think we do not take a step back ? May be some one steps up at every position but not expecting growing pains ?

Shoop will have defense improved but SC loss was not on Shoop. Vandy was partially on Shoop but partially on Offense that scored 3 points in second half. TAMU was on Shoop but his boys made critical plays to get us back in the game too. Alabama was a disaster. They played us like high school kids.
GA has all the firepower coming back with Chubb and Michel. We have new QB, RB, WRs. We barely beat them with hailmary when cards were flipped. I dont anticipate losing to Vandy but FL, GA, LSU, GTech and USC are toss ups. Alabama is a likely loss. Even if Butch does well and doesn't lose to Vandy, KY etc .. we could easily be anywhere between 9-3 to 7-5.

Even with injuries, UT had much more talent on the field than Vandy or South Carolina. Im skeptical that injuries played a role in scoring what 31 in the first half against Vandy and then 3 in the second. That's on coaching right there. Mason made adjustments. CBJ et al did not.

Too simplistic. Health, chemistry, coaching , talent, support staff, etc. There are many parts to a successful program and season. They all need to be performing at their peak to contend for championships at this level.

Yep.

We lost to South Carolina because of injuries, despite a bye week to rest, heal up, and game plan for a high school QB making his first ever SEC start.

We got amnesia, and forgot that we had injuries while throttling Tenn Tech.

We got amnesia, and forgot that we had injuries while throttling Kentucky.

We got amnesia, and forgot that we had injuries while throttling Mizzou.

We remembered we had injuries against Vandy, but we only remembered at halftime after scoring 31 pts, and subsequently laid down and lost the game in the 2nd half.

Danged ole injuries.

Who is responsible if the team has higher than normal injuries for 3 straight years? This isn't a one year problem. If it were then maybe Jones would deserve some slack. But he didn't see and effectively address a problem for 2 years BEFORE it tanked a promising season.

With a completely healthy team, UGA and probably UF will still have more talent... and Jones hasn't proven he can outcoach anyone on game day. It is even worse with Bama and LSU. Jones is winless against the coaching master.... Muschamp. He's 2-2 vs Vandy for crying out loud.

Unless Jones has a Coach Klein moment and suddenly finds his gameday manhood... you start with 8-4 and then deduct 1 to 3 games. In each of his years he has lost 1-3 games that should have been wins while posting only one debatable upset win.

Injuries are a part of the problem but all of these problems ultimately lead back to the feet of Jones and decisions he's made.

So explain the last two years of 9-4? Bad math is bad.

Who fired the S&C coach who seemed to make us into a strong, physical football team in 2015?

They weren't remarkably strong or physical... and S&C can prevent many injuries. Action should have been taken on Butch's mid-major S&C staff 2 years ago.

Explain what? Two years that Jones SHOULD HAVE won the SEC East? Two years with at least 2 and probably 3 losses that should have been wins... in route to not winning a terribly weak SEC East?

Bad math is bad.... but praising the utter chokes of the last two years is good?

Here's some "math" for you. Jones took a roster that should have won at least 10 and probably 11 regular season games this year... and won 8. He took a team that had every opportunity in the world to win 10 or 11 last year... and won 8. He took a six win team in year one and won 5. He took a 7 win team in '14 and won six.

See the "mathematical" pattern here? Jones loses an average of 2 games per year that should have been wins with NO corresponding pattern in games that "should have" been losses but were wins.

OP brings a valid point, as evidenced by Florida / LSU game. I guess Florida had developed enough talent to win despite starts begin out and its considered unreasonable to expect Tennessee to be able to do the same.

Butch has performed above average to our historical standards so far. 9 or more wins are the exception not the rule.

So, because previous coaches (who coached in eras with less regular season games than currently) averaged 9 wins a season, we shouldn't expect Butch Jones coached teams to beat horrible USCe and Vandy teams?

Not sure I follow your logic.

Injuries are part of the game, but I've always wondered if being overly concerned about injuries and practicing in ways to try and avoid them is a detriment? Suspect it may be why our fundamentals are suspect at times. Practice hard and physical and you play that way. This team needs a healthy dose of toughness. Injuries happen, but you can't play this game in fear of them. Has to get into players heads when there's an inordinate focus on injuries. Almost a self fulling prophecy. "Thud" drills....BS. Hit people. Never had the talent for college ball, but I never had a problem with a little bull in the ring either. Play the way you practice as the saying goes.

What about a disciplined football team? Is that too much to ask for? I think team 120 was the most undisciplined football team in Butch's tenure. Stupid penatlities, stupid mistakes riddled our season all the way down to the Kamara running out of bounds well short of the first down marker at Vandy. I guess some of the lack of discipline could be attributed to second and third string guys in the lineup but come on. Team 117 was more disciplined than Team 120. That's what Butch was selling at the time. Just don't beat ourselves and hang around. If we had gotten back to that mentality, we would have beaten Vandy and uscjr. Now times change, mentality this year was we are better than those teams and we should beat them with ease. Not so fast my friends
