"Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted to athletes who appear in fewer than 30% of team competitions (none after the midpoint of the season) then suffers a season-ending injury. Players granted such a waiver are treated for the purposes of eligibility as though they did not compete in that season."
Robert Hubbs has played 30% of our total games played (12 games out of 36) and if we play one more he will be under the 30% mark. Is it possible we can save him a year of eligibility?

Does the rule include postseason games? I mean, it would make sense to becacause they are theoretically games he could have played in, but the NCAA and 'sense' don't often go hand in hand.

12/36 does not equal 30%

SecT counts as 1 game

So no, there's no way to save him a year of eligibility.

Wes Rucker tweeted a couple months back that, if healthy, Robert Hubbs is good enough to leave for the NBA after two or three years, so I hope he's that good!

As the above post pointed out, we need to hope Hubbs is in the NBA before a potential 5th year would mean anything. Say what you will about coaching stability or whatever, for the elite players, seeing people come in for a year and get picked in the 1st round is the #1 consideration. It's why Cal has turned into a monster recruiter. He was lucky enough to have WWW line him up enough 1 and dones at Memphis early in the process to make him untouchable in the "get you to the NBA" process.
