San Francisco Chronicle: Chryst's arm strength criticism unfair

As a starting QB for this season.
What are you even talking about? The post you linked was simply a breakdown of his completion percentage by quarter and by down. How was anything in that article a fluff piece or are you trying to say that because he wrote an article, the article itself is a fluff piece? I genuinely do not get your point here, he didnt claim JG was going to be the starter, just said let's take a look at his stats from last year.

In times of adversity he never rallied his teammates and pulled through. The team quit last season. The QB's job is steer the ship through adversity. JG never did that and we accordingly went winless in the SEC. He wasn't even half the leader that Dobbs was.

Well JG did have that late drive against SCAR and made a great throw on 4th down that should have won the game...but Brandon Johnson didnt catch the ball. Lets give him at least another year before we call him a bust. One could say Dobbs failed to lead the team to an SECEC in 2016 when it was right there for the taking. His performance against SCAR was not what you expect from your senior QB and team leader. Not throwing rocks at Josh just stating the facts.

I'm more than willing to do that. I'm rooting for him due to his arm talent... and because he's a Vol that I'd like to see do well.

But before we lay that at Brandon's feet... let's remember the rest of that drive. JG's indecision on the first play of that drive resulted in the ball being knocked out of his hand. A different bounce... game over right there. A couple of plays later Johnson makes the biggest reception of the drive.

On the next to last play, JG stared down a slant route that could have been a pick if it hadn't been knocked down at the LOS.... and that last play would have required Johnson to catch the ball after it went through Lammins hands … if it wasn't deflected.

I'd say you are badly misremembering Dobbs' first game vs Bama. He was 19 for 32 and 192 yds with two TD's and a pick to go with 75 yards running the ball. He led the Vols to 20 points in about 3 quarters of play.

JG wasn't close to that... he had 45 yds passing on 9 for 16, no TD's, and a pick. He was sacked 4 times and netted -12 yds rushing. UT scored no points on O behind JG. UT's only points were on a Bituli pick 6. UT avg'd just over 4 plays per drive on 10 drives.
No...lil buddy. In 2013, Dobbs FIRST game against Bama, he was 5-12 for 75 yards against the fourth or fifth defensive unit. Yours is from his second game against Bama...which I already credited in my previous post.

You're right. My apologies. Forgot he even played in that game.

That's just wrong, I have posted pictures that prove the db's hands were nowhere near the ball, and only Brandon could have caught it. Does that put the loss on Brandon? No, there were far more ways they could have won earlier in the game but failed. But you cant say JG had anything less than a spectacular drive, they moved the ball 70 plus yards in 4-5 plays, sure there was a misstep or two, but no one said a game winning drive has to be flawless.
