Country is alive and well if you go find it.

Merle will be missed though

Well if you're keeping it an all men's club...

Hank Williams Sr
Johnny Cash
Merle Haggard
George Jones

(honorable mentions would be Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, Hank Jr, Charlie Rich, Charlie Pride, Willie Nelson, Ronnie Millsap, Kenny Rogers, Don Williams, George Straight, Garth Brooks, and Alabama)

The women would be...

Patsy Cline
Loretta Lynn
Tammy Wynette
Dolly Parton

(honorable mentions would be Kitty Wells, Reba McEntire, Barbara Mandrel, Dottie West, Tanya Tucker, Crystal Gale, the Judds,)

Although Ernest Tubb popped into my head, your 4 would be pretty hard to beat.

Honorable mention -- Don Williams.

Yeah I thought of Tubb too but I feel like he was known more for hosting the Opry than just for his music. I kind of feel the same way about Mickey Gilley. He's better known for owning Gilley's and being in Urban Cowboy than he is for his actual music.

If We Make It Through December
That's the Way Love Goes
Silver Wings
Pancho and Lefty
Today the Bottle Let Me Down
I Think I'll Just Sit Here and Drink

Such a shining star and icon. He's on your Country Mt Rushmore or you need a class on country music.
