I can understand following the rules but geez, talk about stiffing a tradition.
No cigar?: One of the long-standing traditions of the Alabama-UT rivalry is that the winning team celebrates its victory by passing out cigars to coaches and players.
But Tide Coach Nick Saban said that was not allowed in the locker room after the game.
"No. It's against NCAA rules to use tobacco. I don't think anybody even thought about it. The players were so happy. I know it's a tradition here but the players never came and asked me about it and I never mentioned it to them," he said.
But there were hints that the players might have secretly gotten their hands on cigars. Asked if he had received a cigar, Tide quarterback John Parker Wilson tapped the pocket of his jacket and said: "Oh, maybe."
