he is most likely going to be ready for the first game. while we may have better athletes behind him, he is a much smarter player
I second that opinion 100%. There are others behind him on the depth chart with much more talent, but he has a nose for the ball and doesn't get fooled often. Maybe outran, but not fooled.
Karl starts for a reason and thats, that he knows the defense great and he makes all the checks and reads for the front 7, and is a smart player that puts himself in the right place at the right time. Just because he isnt a 5 star rivals player doesnt mean he isnt a vital part of our defense.
Having the wrong checks and not executing are very different things. He started because the defense runs smoother when he is on the field and he puts himself in the right place at the right time. If you'd pay attention to the calls and checks that are made and understand how the defense is run then you'd know that the right calls were being made, our dline mostly were the ones that didnt execute.
