Russia Blocks Kerch Strait

There seems to be rumors coming from the Russian side that Ukraine is going to launch an offensive and use chemical weapons. They are probably doing this as an excuse for a first strike.

Where are you seeing this?

Where are you seeing this?

Several sources are reporting this mainly from the DNR side. I believe I saw one article from one of the Russian media sites (Sputnik?). They say the Ukrainians are going to launch a chemical attack than launch an offensive with 12k troops on the 14th, the day before the potential unification and split of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from Russia. Meanwhile Russia has sent notices to its banks to be prepared for them to be disconnected from the international payment system. My question is what's coming that will potentially force the international community to do that?

I'm not so sure that's his actual thesis. According to Wikipedia (and there's a citation), his law thesis was on "The Most Favored Nation Trading Principle in International Law." It was an undergrad thesis written at Leningrad State University. I don't see anything about him having a PhD or ever being in a PhD program.

The link @carlos86 provided goes to a thesis called "MINERAL AND RAW MATERIALS RESOURCES AND THE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY FOR THE RUSSIAN ECONOMY" and says he was going for a PhD in Economic Sciences. It doesn't look like a PhD thesis whatsoever - maybe it is something he wrote at some point, but I have no idea.

Russia sends bombers to Venezuela amid country's economic, humanitarian crisis

Two Russian bombers landed in Caracas, Venezuela Monday amidst an economic crisis there that has left 3 million refugees in its wake and caused shortages of food and medical supplies.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said the Tu-160 bombers and two support aircraft landed at the Simon Bolivar International Airport on Monday. During the 6,200-mile flight, the ministry said the bombers were briefly escorted by Norwegian F-16s, presumably flying a NATO air police mission.

Everywhere I look it’s call his Ph.D dissertation in economics. He has also been accused of plagiarizing it too.

The Mystery of Vladimir Putin’s Dissertation

I don't know if Ras or Pacer will believe this but a lot of the Russian and Ukrainian sources I follow on social media are extremely worried this week will be bad. There are a lot of rumors circulating of a Ukrainian "provocation" that will occur on the 14th. It seems that the 15th (the unification of the various factions of the Ukrainian church and the formal split from Russia) is going to be a triggering event for the Kremlin. Putin seems intent on attempting to stop this. Ukrainian intelligence is saying that Putin is going to use any potential religious conflict (protests, etc) between Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox members as justification to intervene again.

Hasn't that ship sailed? What could Russia do to undo it now?

Same. The Russian have mobilized a ton military hardware on the Ukrainian border. It’s either a snap exercise or combat preparations.

Dear Lord, i made the mistake of reading that russian diarrhea of the mouth. There were sentences that stretched 3 paragraphs. I have never, ever, in 41 years seen someone use so many words to say so little.

Tl,dr: russiA has minerals. Want to get from about 1970 to current date life by extracting them.

I dare anyone else here to read it and come up with more than that. Oh, and uranium is only 0.01% of what they have. Good job hillary selling them a third of ours for peanuts. Beetch should be hung high for treason, yes i mean that. Good grief

Are you serious? Of all of the things Putin could be concerned about, an alleged schism within the Orthodox church (esp. a possible manufactured schism by Western provocateurs) is the least of his concerns. A Muslim uprising in the Caucasus would be more worrisome.

Honestly I'm not sure. Unless he feels armed force will cause the issue to take a back burner to potential conflict?

It's all very simple. LOL

2018 Moscow–Constantinople schism - Wikipedia

So this is a months-long process, a key date being in April when Poroshenko met with the Ecumenical Patriarchate (Constantinople) and they reached an agreement. The Patriarch of Constantinople granted a Tomos of autocephaly in October. The Russian Orthodox protests, but what can it do if neither Ukraine nor Constantinople now recognizes its authority over the church?

Putin's approval ratings are down due to the economic downturn in Russia, the sanctions, and the pension reform. The church has played a big role in supporting him and forming national unity. If he and the church lost influence in Ukraine it will hurt him.

Fun fact from link above: The church is Kyiv was founded before there was one in Moscow, but somehow the latter came to control the former.

Uh...yeah. Because of the relative status of both countries, any POTUS will have more power than the President of Russia.
talking about their power within the country.

I don't remember any US president rewriting the Constitution to keep themselves in power.

Putin has basically made the church apart of the Russian government.

Does anyone here know the Orthodox church?

I'm wondering exactly what changes on December 15? I gather the church in Ukraine gains authority to name its own personnel. What else? Does it change a flow of money?
