APIt’s been rumored for years that, if/when Eagles coach Andy Reid no longer is coaching the Eagles, former Eagles offensive coordinator Jon Gruden could be lured back to town.
Now, Howard Eskin of WIP and FOX 29 reports that Gruden could be the next coach of the Eagles.
The move, obviously, hinges on the Eagles firing Reid. And on Gruden being interested.
Gruden has made it clear from time to time that he’ll coach again, even as ESPN has tried to make staying in the broadcast booth more and more attractive to the man who led the Bucs to a Super Bowl win a decade ago.
Some of you will scoff at Eskin’s report, given that he said last week that a quarterback change with the Eagles was “likely.” Keep in mind, however, that the Browns scoffed in June when Eskin reported that former Eagles president Joe Banner could resurface in Cleveland.
Eskin serves as the radio sideline reporter for Eagles games, so he’s plugged in. And while it doesn’t take a genius to plug Gruden’s name in to a potential vacancy in Philadelphia, Eskin’s report makes sense.
If, of course, owner Jeffrey Lurie and agent Bob LaMonte will be able to transact business after Lurie has fired Reid, a LaMonte client.

If he is entertaining this notion. Then that means the rumor of his media access agreement with NFL to not coach there till like 2016 is incorrect. Or at the least he could break that agreement and coach immediately if it is a true agreement.

Yeah, Gruden's name will be mentioned for a lot of jobs, the Browns were mentioned earlier this year.

Awesome.

Fortunately (and also unfortunately for me) Howard Eskin tends to be wrong.

...a lot.

If Andy Reid is fired.. there will be a line of suitors stretched around the corner. I doubt they are dumb enough to fire him. If so, I hope Bud Adams hires him.

I'm pretty sure there was no such thing in his espn contract. That's why he always says he'll be coaching again. I think he told one of the college qbs he would be coaching against him one day.

I hate say it but I hope he goes somewhere soon so all the nancies will give it a rest. A few "good insiders" have said it was already a done deal to here and everyone said they knew what they were talking about. Lets see what happens when all these guys end up wrong.

Just talk and one guys opinion. I really hope their is a clause in Gruden's contract about not being able to coach in the NFL till 2016. This season either needs to hurry up and get over or just fire Dooley then Gruden can either accept or decline the job so that if he does say no we can go get another big name guy. Hopefully that wont be an issue.

Not saying he wont go to the NFL, but he will not coach in Philly if Reid gets fired.

Really doubt anyone outside of Gruden, his agent and ESPN know that answer. Just want all this to be over with so we can either get Gruden or another big name. Im tired of losing, near misses to shi++y teams and Dooley's BS weekly excuses.

Idk why he'd sign a contract not allowing him to return to the NFL, unless he didn't want to coach anymore.

Na nana boo boo... just stop man, we just want the best for our university, I don't see how people will be happy if they are wrong just so they can point fingers. You don't have to buy in, but you don't have to be an a** either.

I am a Cowboys fan. Who do I root for this weekend?

It is all interesting. That will be a tough division for a while with Eli, RG3, and even Romo. Reid is a good friend of his, so I don't know how he would feel about it. I do think there are only a couple of NFL jobs he would really consider. Carolina and KC may come open, but I don't see him at either as a small market team with lower level talent.

You think I'm happy watching all these people bash a coach doing everything he can to win? I like watching constant rumors and everyone spin everything so it looks like he's the enemy. Make fun of the players, coaches and AD like they don't know anything?

I will support Dooley until he is given papers! I "hope" he turns it around.

I am not going to drop myself to the level of creating hate towards him so I can constantly bash him.

What do you think you're "being" to the current coach, team, and ad? Some reason you feel that you have the right to be but I'm suppose to step aside.

Note: I am not talking about you personally.

Pelting Santa.

Filling a basketball court with trash.

Acquiring a dog killer to play QB.

Andy Reid's sons having problems.

Good place to coach and raise a family....

So you're saying people shouldn't show up and support the program?

You don't think they have the right to voice their opinion despite spending money for a product(that sucks).

If you can't criticize the product you spend your money on, you should just stop putting money towards it. -- That's the better choice per you.

I definitely agree with you. Im not sure and highly doubt that's even in his contract but hope like hell it is and that he could leave to coach at TN.

Well crap, another article saying Gruden is going somewhere else. Guess its time to move on and shut down the Gruden threads for good.

I want him in Tennessee. That being said, if he is NFL only, I'll take him for the Titans. Munchak, Sunseri, Grey, and Palmer were all room mates at the same coaching clinic apparently. "The Art of bad decisions and lame playcalling 101"

Dooley has brought on some of this on his own. He calls out players and blames them and everyone else for losing and not himself. He doesnt take the blame for anything. And have heard many times he is the biggest a$$ and douche you will ever meet. That stuff can be tolerated somewhat if he was winning, but to treat people like that and act the way he does on top of us getting our Brakes beat off every Sat makes it very hard to pull for him.
