Does anyone else notice the nuclear levels of
condescension amongst those in the local media when taking questons about possible new coaches?
I'm sitting here listening to John "Fulmer with a Beard" Pennington and Wil "I hung around long enough until they hired me" West on the Sports Animal.....and they were just flat insulting to several of the callers.
It sounded like I was listening to two frat guys making fun of fat girls at a sorority party - several jokes about Haslam not playing golf, rumors, etc.
Also, heaven help someone if they wanted to mention their preference for a coach who's name did not begin with a "B" and end with a "utch DAvis". You would have thought that someone was making fun of the blonde waitress that Pennington brings onto the set each Sunday during his show. Lots of scoffing and snickering.
I have never been one of those people who say that someone from the media has to be from around here, or even a "fan" of the program per se, but after hearing this, maybe it's more important than I thought. In this case, I think that these guys don't understand that this is so much more than a "story" to many of us, because they simply don't share our passion for it.....beyond what it does for their own wallet, or sense of superiority.
Maybe a call to Pennington's deity - David Hall with Hall's Salvage- is in order?
Also, if anyone was listening today - could there have been any more man-love for Butch Davis?!? Geez, they just wouldn't consider anything outside of him.
Am I the only one that notices this?

Yeah it is John Pennington, but I feel the same way about him. Pennington is just like most of the people on the Sports Animal...a d-bag. The only person I can stand to listen to is Dave Hooker.

With that said, the Butch Davis love does not stop with them. Granted, I would be happy with Butch Davis, but I would be happier with Leach. All I heard on that stupid am show was how Tech had played Bama in 05 and only scored 10 points. Well big deal, he also led the league in offense with KY. Of course they are basically the voice of the university. They defended Fulmer to the death until a change was made and now they are all on the Davis train since Hooker wrote the article. Their minds change constantly, or should I say, they change as the university makes its changes.

The Animal is filled with a bunch of morons who have been overcome with Fulmeritis.

They get in their jobs, people seem to listen, so they start believing that everything they do is perfect and infallible.

The only one worse is Bill Meade in Johnson City on the Sports Monster. That guy is a egomaniac who just loves to hear himself talk.

They all pretty much just want to hear themselves talk.

Yeah, that's probably true. But this guy doesn't even do interviews or guests on his show, let alone co-hosts. It's just three hours of him pontificating about how great he is and how his opinion on UT football is the gospel. The people who call his show are a sad statement of the advancement of human civilization and cognitive development. The same guys call day after day after day.

I know some people from out of the area in radio and they laugh at this guy for being such a clown. It's beyond me (and them) how the station thinks this is a great format.

You sure Pennington wasn't with Josh Ward. WIll West is the best thing going at the Sports Animal. He should get a spot on that morning show and Jacoby and Dearstone leave.

Jacoby is just without doubt the worst radio personality known to man. That is fact.

I'll second that motion :)
