Ruby Whitehorn cited for simple possession after game

If anything it will have a positive effect on the team. The team wants a coach that has their back when they screw up. She hasn’t done anything yet that she can’t come back from but she may be running out of chances.
"yet"?
exactly my point
If Kim rolls the dice and a 3rd thing happens,,,who will suffer then?

People are looking at this from a parental side of view not from a coaching side of view.... You've got to understand that ruby is not the only one that's going to be affected by this decision.. the staff. her teammates, their parents. future recruits and their parents are all gonna be affected by this decision and how they view the handling of this situation.

This where kim shows if she can put her emotions aside and be a coach. I would not jeopardize my entire team and their future. For one player who has shown she has no respect for the law and for the team.

I wish someone would start a poll thread , keep/suspend or dismiss her no other option
How could anyone pull a lever without a more complete fact set than I have seen on this board? On both of her incidents!

Was she he only person in the vehicle? Has it been established she acquired the stash and was not just driving the vehicle it was in? I am not going to make any of those ASSumptions and reserve the right to discount the credibility of anyone who does. NOW if they have the goods…. Bring it on.

simple,,,a player that was in a legal trouble and on probation for said trouble, with both the coach and the law, was out at 430 in the morning with pot in the car...And if you have ever been around the stuff, you KNOW it is near bc it smells like a skunk.

I am sorry folks, this is a "free Carl Lee-Fry Carl Lee" moment and I am decidedly not giving a free pass to Ruby.

BC I KNOW what it will do to the teammates.

further if the coach waits for the law or the AD to exact a decision it will show that the coach can't...I would urge Kim to make this decision, yay or nay, before her hand is forced by an outside influence bc at this point fully two days later, parents/players/recruits are going from "what will she do?" to "Is she going to do?"

She has to take a stance and "no stance" is worse than the wrong one

I realize most of you posters are parents and not coaches so I understand your letting emotions dictate your suggestions,,,"what if it were my kid".

But we coaches have t o consider all of our kids... not just one

we have a team now, with or without Ruby, more athletic and deeper than last year and that team was in the S16...why would you jeopardize that

I have been on here for years and I know how things go,,,the same people who are saying give ruby another chance will be calling for Kim's firing if it happens again

What on Earth would a poll accomplish? There's nothing to be validated in this matter. "Well the board votes X, so clearly X is correct." That's not how any of this works. A handful of votes wouldn't mean anything. Hell, a mountain of votes wouldn't mean anything. It's just a message board. Vote or no vote, no one gets to be the authority on right or wrong in this matter. Well, except for Kim Caldwell, who actually is the authority, but she doesn't post here.

Incorrect. Your posts are simply knee jerk reactions cloaked in coaching camouflage.

How can you possibly know how this event will place the entire team in jeopardy or effect the staff, the team or unknown future recruits? You don’t and you cannot possible know the future. You can, however, have legitimate concerns. However, it is entirely possible that an overly harsh response by the coach that is decided upon before the facts are known and the kid’s own response to the incident is measured (attitude, etc.) could and likely would adversely impact all of the very same people if they view it as unmeasured and unfair.

Bottom line is neither you, nor I, nor any of us, have the facts or truly know this kid. You have nothing else to base your premature opinions on and shouldn’t be arguing for dismissal from any view ( parent, coach or simply a busybody) even if your sentencing is cloaked as the opinion of a “coach.” Neither you or I nor anyone else on this forum are this kid’s coach and your posts simply serve to undermine the authority and reputation of the woman who is the only coach that matters.

Leaving a “solution” to informed decision makers ( coach, AD, courts, and parents) just isn’t that difficult and it how this should be handled without the hue and cry of nosey alleged experts. They’ll get it right.

agree

I’m kinda surprised we haven’t gotten any sort of announcement already

It will come Monday in the presser, or at least that will be the first time the question is raised. Won’t be surprised if Kim deflects and moves on.

Allowing for the process to be handled and then making the announcement when appropriate.

If we've learned anything from recent events, it's that the UTAD puts value into letting each program have its day in the spotlight. So even if CKC had an announcement ready today, I don't think she would make it on a football Saturday.

And, as many have pointed out, a decision of such weight and potential impact on one of our VFL family as well as on the team--and on the program into the future--needs to be based on confirmed and reconfirmed facts.

The only decision I can think of that had to be made quickly was whether or not Ruby would be at the next practice.

You made an important distinction. Knox cops and UTK cops.

Not picking picking on Ruby Whitehorn.
Some of us discussing drinking.
Awhile back my take if you are going to drink .
Stay out of getting by a wheel of a motor vehicle.

That being said University police department.
Was good Fortune for Ruby Whitehorn.
If she more careful about getting behind the wheel of a vehicle in the future.
That officer stopping Ruby might have been one best things in her life.

I’m not sure if you’re misspelling her name on purpose or what but her name is Ruby not Rudy.

I see what you are getting at, but frankly, I'd rather avoid a situation where Kim could end up feeling guilty for having to make a decision to dismiss a player. As a young parent she really doesn't need the stress and guilt hanging over her. Obviously she SHOULDN'T feel guilty if she has to dismiss a player for clearly breaking team rules, but "shouldn't" doesn't always mean "won't" in reality.

I'd rather it not fall on Kim right now. She's got enough to worry about already.
What's Kim worried about

Fixed.

@ETNVolunteer1

I don't disagree that college kids do college kids things, and these actions are not exactly the worst things a person could do. I get that. But, I feel like Ruby's case is either she is really really unlucky, or she is doing more than the normal. Can anyone name one other power 4 conference women's basketball player that has had this much public legal trouble in the past, what 3 or 4 months? I don't think there are any, and it stinks, bc, fair or not or whatever, it is just not a good look for her and the program, and it is a huge distraction.
I agree. I think things are not black and white.

This is my first time weighing in on this. If I'm the coach and I find this charge has merit, this is a dismissal - this incident on the heels of the other one causes too much concern. Just because I would dismiss doesn't mean I think CKC has to. If Ruby is remorseful and accepts responsibility, I could see allowing for a significant suspension and working her way back from the bottom of the roster for pt. There would have to be an understanding that she is down to her last strike no matter how trivial.
I agreed 4 or 5 games not going to cut it 8 or nine games or 1/4 of the regular season at least.

Hey Coach, she gets three strikes. She lost her mother, aye its weed. Be her mom, discipline her, but this team and team mates are her family now. Ruby, strike two.
