Have you tried to repair it yourself with the guide that Doc posted? Very easy to do and cost about 10 dollars and will last longer than the repair M$ does when you send it in. If I can do it, then anyone can:)

I made it a point to wait until the 360 Elite was released because I was told the rrod problem would be solved on those models. Skip forward a few months and I get the rrod. Of the 5 people I play against the most online 4 of us have had the rrod.

Here is a guide:
XBox 360 Repair Kits | The Coupon Depot

Directions for removing the X-Clamp underneath are a bit weird. You want to insert your flat head screw driver on the side and twist it so that the J-like loop it makes gets spreads apart, then pops off. You don't want your screwdriver between the metal clamp and the actual motherboard.

As for finding thermal paste, try small computer shops in your area. Used shops, repair places, etc. There's a repair/homebuilt store in Knoxville called Computer King next to Hooters. They sell little vials that will do multiple systems for $5/ea. (that gives you an idea of what to pay)

Look in the second page of the RIP RROD thread in this forum and Doc has listed the hardware parts by number and you can take that to Lowes or HD to pick up the screws and washers.

If you don't want to deal with fixing it, I'd be interested in buying it. Buddy of mine is looking for a 360 system.

Yea, I'm just going to get a PS3 simply because I'm pissed at what a crappy product Microsoft made.

Plus PS3 has The Show!

I just got the RROD for the second time in the span of one year. I like the 360 but Microsoft sure made a crappy product this gen.

My 360 is a workhorse. Had it for 2.5 years and never had any troubles.

well i ordered a new PS3 but my NCAA '10 game was stuck inside, so i took the whole thing apart and there was so much dust in there. Next time i'll have to keep it cleaner.

I was just thinking about trading in my ps3 for the 360, since almost all my friends have one. Maybe I'll keep what i have...

if you were smart, you would learn to spell your words instead abbreviating like a 14 year old girl.
