Anyone know what the current roster looks like?

With J. Kelly declaring, seniors graduating, a few transfers here and there I'm just wondering if 25 new signees will get us to 85. This is an area I wish I knew more about.

If we have room for 30 but can only sign 25 then the new NCAA rules suck and need to be changed.

I would be surprised if we sign a full 25. Valuable spots that we could back count next year with a full year of Recruiting.

But to answer your question I have no clue how many roster spots are open.

outdide of the 2 safety positions, and 2 offensive linemen, & gaulden if he stays

It's going to be a battle for starting positions. So really hard to say.

You have 5 players that no recruit or current player can challenge. Everyone else depends on how they work

I am not completely sure, but a whole lot of the loopholes Butch rode hard I heard were supposedly being closed. Back counting, blue shirting, and grey shirting rules are suppose to be much harder done, if at all. If Pruitt can somehow get a total of 25, I believe he will sign them.

And if there is heavy attrition, we might see more PWO's come outta the woodwork. I am watching for that anyway. But if these guys can develop the talent, we may not need to figure out what rules can be bent.

we signed 14 early...I read an article on SECCountry that said we would probably go for 11-12 more, accounting for our 25, I presume...still too early to tell who's gonna transfer, asked to move on, blueshirt, etc., so TIFWIW...:)

GO VOLS!

I think you are correct. They changed the rule this year limiting signing:

"Football Bowl Subdivision schools are limited to signing 25 prospective and current student-athletes to a first-time financial aid agreement or a National Letter of Intent. Exceptions exclude current student-athletes who have been enrolled full-time at the school for at least two years and prospective or current student-athletes who suffer an incapacitating injury (effective for recruits who sign after Aug. 1, 2017)."

University of Tennessee Athletics

They still haven't updated it to exclude those no longer eligible, but it is the the official list. The new rules may suck, but I think we have to thank our former coach for it. I would not be surprised if most of those new rules were made with him in mind.

Can’t really hate in the guy for abusing an exploit like any other coach would do.

I think that we will take 10-11 more.

Need the dues.

Agree.

We’re in on a lot of top 100 players and lead for a handful of them with 6 weeks of recruiting left to go. Look at the great work Pruitt and staff have done in such a short time and then throw in the fact that we need this roster turned over as much as possible, as soon as possible, and I believe you’re 100% right.

For that first full class? No, but he rode it to the point that other programs started complaining. And with the way he was also getting POed and running off players HE recruited, it was turning into a joke.

Yeah I can hate on him for that. Kinda like when you have to take drug tests at work when you never touch that crap. But because some idiots can't live without that garbage I have to get tested 3 or 4 times a year? Butch kept testing the limits of the rules until more dumb rule changes make it more ridiculous than it already was for everybody. So for that, yeah, I can hate him in spades.

I think Ole Miss started the large recruiting classes with something over 30 a few years ago. If we play with, say 75 players and another team has a full compliment of 85, we are severely undermanned. Rules are definitely not fair.

You can sign enough to get you to 85 Scholarships.

Can’t bring any more than 25 in a class. And we may not have the option of graduate transfers. We usually need a little attrition to fit a full 25 into the roster anyway.

Do walk-ons count in the 25? I can see Pruitt looking at walk-ons if he is short of 85. Are there other ways to fill the 85 man roster?

How does a workplace drug test tuin your day? If you never "touch the stuff" is donating urine so difficult?

If we end with a Top 20 Class, after the Search Debacle, it would be Minor Miracle!!

Just get bowl eligible in 2018, and then SLAM IT recruiting in 2019!!:rock:

We're currently sitting at 22 on both 247 and Rivals. We're still in it for several high profile prospects. We easily crack the too 20.

Our ranking went from 55th to 22nd.

That was with CJP having zero coaches in K town yet to help him out and only 12 days to figure out what he has on our current roster and figure out what he needed most to go after the hardest recruiting.

Now he's starting at 22nd and has over a month to recruit and lots of his coaches in K town to help him.

THINK my friends...UNlike Bama, UGa, Clemson, Okla, OSU and many others we WILL be able to offer several top recruits early playing time and maybe some of them starter positions.

Many top recruits have in their minds 3 years in school and off to the NFL so early playing time is a huge incentive for them to try to make the NFL faster.

I'm going out on the limb because I expect some big surprises from our new staff and I predict our recruiting class finishes in the top 10 for a serious miracle finish.

Our recruiting plan is already set and ready to go the very minute that it's legal to start contacting kids again.

Our Bald Brigade will be ready to rock and many schools and coaches won't be happy with Tennessee and CJP!

VFL...GBO!!!
