Ron Slay on what makes this roster different

In one sport it can play above the rim. In the other the paint gets worn out on the underside of the rim.
Nobody said we need someone who can play above the rim, the concept is the exact same, need someone who can score other than just dunks, you know like a big man that can actually shoot FT's, our team total was around 57%, Michigan's was around 75%

Too bad we let our career 54.2% free throw shooting, injury prone big walk.

Kinda the point here, we need a big that can score, not just dunk and grab rebounds which are important but, we need a big that can score outside of the rim and that can shoot FT's, Carey was horrible.
I actually don’t think we need that. And it’s not true that you can’t win big any other way. It’s been done plenty of times.

This roster would not beat 2026 Michigan
No one should think we have an outstanding shot of winning it all. The important thing is that the roster is good enough for optimism.

We have plenty of pieces and can scheme around not having a clodhopper down low. Especially by running at a fast pace.
It all comes down to ā€œhow you use itā€. A team of sharpshooters or a team of bruisers - If they’re ball players I’ll see the Final 4 potential.

There’s only one ball and we’re already going to have a bit of a usage problem since a lot of our transfer guys have been ballhandlers and shooters with high usage rates at previous stops. I don’t know if we really could have fit in a ball dominant primary shooting big, especially with Haralson.

Brown can shoot layups and be creative at this level imo.

People talk about needing to have a dominant big like the bigs at Florida wouldn’t just stop them anyway. Estrella is what the league is telling us is out there as an excellent offensive big since he’s rated well and Michigan went after him, and he didn’t really dominate Florida either so we would still have the same issue

In case you forgot. Rick Barnes is still our coach. Bruce won't be here until after next season. The thought that Rick is gonna run up and down the court scoring 90 a game is laughable.
Bruce? I thought you said you knew a thing or two about the game

Indiana struck Gold at QB. Just like Joe Burrow LSU and Cam Newton Auburn. One of these new guys the next MJ? Doubt it.
Not the next MJ, but more than likely the next Yaxel Lendeborg or better in Juke Harris. On paper our class looks better than the class that Michigan brought in last year. You can be a Debbie downer all that you want but it won't change the fact that we have one of the best rosters in the country!

That

Some of y'all are silly. This team is plenty enough talented to make a F4. We are going to run pace, efficiently score, avoid droughts, create a lot of pressure on D and everyone seems to forget Rubin has been one of the best shot blockers in the country for 3 years. Lue also averaged 1.5 blocks a game. The Warriors won titles with 6'9 Looney and 6'7 Draymond playing all their minutes in the post. This isn't 1996.
