If Fulmer is back next year........we will suck again. If someone else takes the job we will still suck...but not as bad. We need a top notch QB in Knoxville. Until we get one...its going to be Rocky Flop instead of Rocky Top. Get a whole new coaching staff and a QB and lets rebuild!

If Phil loses out the rest of the year, he will still get one more year before they show him the door.

If fulmer loses the rest of the games. Including wyoming. Hamiltion would and should be shown the door if fulmer is not fired.

That would be my guess too, but with the kind of money it would take to buy him out, I'm not completely convinced that he's not in for next year regardless. People making 7 figure incomes don't just walk away.

So you think there's no way he takes a page out of Lloyd Carr's playbook?

If UT finishes 6-6, or worse, and if Fulmer has to be (a) fired, (b) forced out, or (c) retained for another year...then I think it will be clear to all that Philip Fulmer, when it really mattered, placed himself above what was right, and best, for UT football.

And if he does that, he gets no respect from me. Period. Name the toilets at Neyland after him. Seems quite appropriate.

go vols.

i think if we lose by 2 TDs to Alabama that Fulmer will retire.

That would constitute losing to all of your possible rivals in the same season, as well as the fan pressure, and the pressure from the boosters.

He would take the "safe" route and retire prior to season's end as opposed to being fired.

If he's fired, they better fire his ass ASAP -- because there are going to be some excellent head coaching jobs at season's end.

Really?
I think this would actually be a great year to be looking. Tennessee would be the best available head coaching job - and I don't think it would be close. The list of BCS schools who will be looking includes Syracuse, Washington, maybe Clemson, and probably a few more. This isn't a year in which Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame, etc., will be looking. We would get our first choice out of the coaches who would consider leaving their current post.
