I'm hunting for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, but I'm having a hard time finding it since they released it on the Wii as a download.

Just remember everyone, a ROM is only legal if you own the cartridge. :)

I have softmoded mine but I have no clue about the emulator thing. It sounds pretty cool though.

I hate to be a downer, but even this is a bit incorrect. According to Nintendo's laywers interpretation of the lawyer, it is only legal is you yourself back up the game or authorize someone to do it. Legally speaking, you have not authorized anyone to do this (since it's already been done), nor have you ripped the catridge yourself.

Chances of being prosecuted for this? Pretty much zero. Still, it's something to consider on a public forum. Discussion of emulators using public code and libraries (which I believe is most) can be freely discussed. I would just advise that any talk of finding roms and links, etc. be done outside a public board.

People have always said, "They don't sell this anymore, you can't get Nintendo games anymore, etc." With the Wii, Gametap, X360, etc., they are selling this stuff do still hold a copyright.

Just throwing that out there. I have some emulators and realize it's pretty much like trading mp3s. Not looking down or saying somebody shouldn't do what they want by any means. Just suggesting that some parts of the discussion are done privately.

Roms are roms. It is actually "for" the SNES, but you run an emulator on your PC to make the rom work. Same thing with my xbox, same rom, just different code for the emulator.

I love it!!! Since I got my PC through my TV I'm playing the old games like crazy. I got over 2,600 roms, and I'm playing them with my wired 360 controller! Right now I got NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis roms that I' playing.

Technology is GREAT!!
