I know we give the guy a hard time, but I spoke with his mother by the busses Sat night, and she said the last year has been rough on Rod. She said he's hanging in there, but the combo of wanting to play/multiple position changes/ multiple coaching changes has been wearing on him. I couldn't think of a way to tell of his legend without insulting him/her, so I didn't. But guys like Rod have been through it just like GJones and CWalker. Here's to you Rod, "hang in there".

Rod Wilks should have never been given a scholarship to Tennessee. Period the end.

I will stay on the serious side of things, and give him a hang in there also. The jokes will be coming though sooner than later.

He doesn't get any sincere praise, just like a lot of guys, but those guys work their arses off too. Jus saying.

he has earned his scholarship. Kids like Rod that participate on scout team week in and week out are worth their scholarship as they prepare the team to go play each week.

Some fans lack understanding of what happens in a football program and the importance of many people to a programs success.

Liles thinks we play 1's on 1's all week Larry. Only 30 guys practice, the others carry their pads and stuff.

Yeah great idea, bash a kid that absolutely loves the school and bleeds orange. Great mindset.

Dude, do us all a favor and shut it. The truth hurts. I bleed orange as well. Do I deserve a scholarship? Didn't think so.

Wow you are an idiot. Someone starts a thread about him going through a tough time right now and your first response is to bash him.

Way to show some class brother.

That mindset is the reason why Tennessee is "hoping" for a bowl bid to the Music City Bowl. You sign players who can play. Rod Wilks is a product of the shambles Phillip Fulmer left in his latter years as Head Coach. There were a number of players signed that should NOT have been given scholarships to Tennessee. Plain and simple. They were signed out of necessity because Fulmer could not sign anyone better. Please stop with the BS of "He loves Tennessee and Bleeds Orange", or "He's a local Product" crap. It does no good to sign a lesser player just to sign him and then recruit over him the next five years. Remember, when you sign a kid. You have him for 4-5 years. Rod would have done much Better at a smaller school where his talents could have been utilized. He knows this as well.

you will not be able to find any BCS school that has kept all the players they have signed in any class. Talent level doesn't matter. USC has signed the best players for years and they also have had players not turn out, many.

Your mindset is not pratical because everyone signs some players that end up not being able to play or not wanting to play.

You talked to Mary? While you were there, did you make sure to ask her if Catholics actually pray to her? As a Catholic, that assumption really grinds my gears.

He's a kid that chose to give 4 yrs of his life to UT football, in exchange for an education/ board/food. Jus like the other 85 (60...lol) He may not be J Lewis, or even D Tinsley, but he's a Vol. Cliche or not.

"Dude" "bruh" "bro" "broseph"

Not every recruit that comes in is going to be All Sec. Some have different roles. ST, scout team, etc. They play hard, work hard, and help the team. He's a good kid that doesn't need to get bashed online. Take it elsewhere.

The guy has a free ride to attend the University of Tennessee, free education, honor to play football in the orange and white. What is so terrible? I'd be thankful. If he wants to play then he has no one to blame but himself. As fans, we forget these are Student Athletes. Getting a scholarship at UT is an accomplishment in itself.

I would let tebow circumcise my entire family before giving you a scholarship to any university.

I learned of Rod through this board. I never really cared about him either way before, but with all the jokes that are on here (most of which I find funny) I want this kid to do great. I would love to see him really develop.

Rod Wilks had offers from pretty much every SEC school including Florida. He also had out of conference offers from GaTech, Michigan, and a handful of others. Lots of people were lining up to sign Wilks.

It's hard to "recruit over" a guy who was coveted by major in-conference opponents.
