This is my favorite version of Rocky Top, and I CANNOT stand bluegrass. It's just something about the way these guys play it...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I need the season to start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My heart starts racing when I hear this song!

YouTube - Osborne Brothers - Rocky Top

The interesting thing is that in the vid he mentions that Rocky Top was a spot outside of Gatlinburg, but from what I understand Rocky Top was a totally fictional place that didn't exist.

I've always understood Rocky Top to be a spot in the Smokies.

Many people believe that the song was written about a specific place called Rocky Top, Tennessee, but Felice Bryant said in a later interview that they weren't writing about any particular mountain peak. Today there are at least three rocky mountain outcroppings with the official name of Rocky Top in Tennessee. One is on the Tennessee-North Carolina state line on Thunderhead Mountain, one in Cocke County, Tennessee, and one on the Tennessee North Carolina state line in Monroe County, Tennessee.

I saw Bobby Osborne a couple weeks ago and he stills sounds great. Bluegrass is great if you give it a chance. It is the only place that I can find real music being played these days.

to me, Rockytop has always been all of east TN. But more specifically, i think it could be "the Hill" that the UT campus is locatted. I have listed to this song about 1000 times and it never gets old! GO VOLS!

I used to have a visceral hatred for it, but it is growin on me.

The actual location of Rocky Top is in Cocke County. At least that is what I was taught. But the song I believe is a general location of East TN.
