Rocky Long does it with class

Kind of shows how an alumni/coach who really cares about his school/program should do it.

He was asked to resign, he didn't do it of his own accord. Word I have is that a possible candidate was talked to about the job as far back as last January. Rocky's a good guy, and has been around this program a long time. But this was not his decision. Like Fulmer, he was a player here, an assistant coach and then head coach. Trust me, it's the same scenario.

Thanks for the info. I do like the fact that he took it on himself and his staff in his statements though.

Yet he credited his players and I presume he hasn't made his wife a public spectacle.

"In 2005, we did a terrible job of coaching and this year we did a terrible job of coaching," he said. "Other than that, I think our staff, our players have been overachievers every other year."

I suspected the same thing. 58 year olds with tenure don't just suddenly get an attack of conscience and quit their jobs.

Definitely one of the more surreal images I have ever seen at a press conference in my life.

I couldn't believe no one gave the poor woman a seat. I just kept saying " somebody let her sit down, please".

Have you ever been so hurt that, if someone gave you sympathy or kindness, you would simply break down? I think she made his emotional condition worse by patting and pawing on him. In the meantime, she had the meanest look on her face.

There is nothing CPF or his wife could have done that some fault would not have been found.
Nah. If Phil had taken the podium and said something to the effect of he screwed up in '05 and this year and he knows he has neither a good media presence nor the ability to win another SEC championship at UTK then I would have been forced to acknowledge his astuteness.

Disagree. If he had made a statement like that, he would have been accused of pandering to the media. There is nothing he could do that would not bring a rush of criticism from one sector or another.
