Tennessee: Jeremy Pruitt ain’t happy

It can be tough to overhaul a program’s culture in a single spring. Jeremy Pruitt seems to be experiencing that issue at Tennessee in Year 1. He’s been critical of the defense throughout the spring – and the offense hasn’t been much better – and Saturday he had this to say about some of his players: “Just call it what it is, some flat out quit.” Later, he had this to say: “Good news is we’ll have 14 new guys, may be even more, here soon.”

Actually, nobody was safe from Pruitt’s criticism. Here’s Pruitt on Tennessee's fans: "Our fans today were like our football team. Some were here and doing great, some weren't here for legitimate reasons, and some should have been here and weren't. That sounds just like our team."

It's not like the Volunteer fans didn't show up, with an announced attendance mark of 65,000. Pruitt wasn’t happy post-scrimmage, but might I suggest saving the fan call-out for when the games at least count?

Also, of note on reading other teams spring games it appears Adrian Martinez was the star of the Nebraska spring game with 4 TDS.

Anybody announced they are transferring yet?

I have a question along those lines. Can we still get JUCO transfers for next year or is there a cut off time where a player is no longer eligible to play for that season?

Random fact:

Only 1 team that’s won the national championship in CFB in the last decade had a spring game attendance of less than 50,000 fans.

2013 Florida State (27,000)

Bad move calling out the fans.

Doesn't bother me one bit. Pruitt comes at the tail end of the generation where not everybody gets a trophy for trying. Nothing better than someone who calls it like he sees it. We already had guys who sugar coated everything and we all know how those turned out.

Random, yes. And meaningless.

Check out the stands in this YouTube video showing the 1998 Orange and White Game. There probably weren't half the number of fans that were there Saturday. And we somehow still went on to win the national title that season. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Nah. If so, we are soft. Truth is, I don't need Jeremy Pruitt to love me or any of the fans. I don't need him to love everything Tennessee football. I simply want him to love to win and go and do it. I don't want a coach kissing up to players, fans, or anyone...I simply want him to want to win more than any of us do. The end.

This has been hashed out and even polled. Didn't bother the majority of the fans, just a vocal few.

Just like the political environment now. A minority of people attempt to be the loudest voice in the room to tell how "everyone" feels.

Butch saw the weaknesses in his team and tried to coach-speak them away.
Pruitt sees the weaknesses in his team and speaks the truth.
Recognizing the flaws is the first step to correcting them.

Us fans get trophies when we win? I thought we just paid the bills.

When you're an unproven new guy, may be a good idea to know who you call out b4 you drop that dime.

I love the fan call out . He is coach he wants everything perfect . If it’s not perfect he will try to get it there

Needs to worry about the team. Not the fans

Glad you and some others love it. I will love the results if they're positive. Other than that at this point, it's just talk
