Just some interesting facts for those who think that the star rankings from rivals are the spoken word of God.

Of the 31 "1st Team All SEC" players, only 4 were 5* Rivals rated players. It goes like this...
5* - 4
4* - 10
3* - 12
2* - 3
na - 2

you also have to consider the fact that there are only 25-30 5*s a year, and that the SEC don't get all of them either. There is substantially more 3 and 4 star players then there are 5 stars, but the 5 stars that do play more than likely will make a name for themselves for example Eric Berry i don't think he'll be a bust anytime soon

No, the point was not that most 5* players are busts. Some certainly are. And some become superstars. The point is that so many people see a 3* commitment and have a negative reaction like the player will never be a big time contributor. Well, 12 3* players were All-SEC this season. That sounds like they did pretty well coming from humble 3* beginnings. Even worse, there were 5 players on the All-SEC team that were 2* or less. Fans on here go crazy when we take a 2*. Granted, I dont want to see a class of all 2* players obviously.

I agree with the spirit of the post, but when it comes to skill positions which are usually less affected by physical development (putting on weight and muscle mass) the 5 star recruits are almost always a better bet...simply because they are faster than everyone else.

5* skill players are usually ranked so high because of the speed factor and there are only so many speed guys in every recruiting year, which you cant teach/coach, great point Lex.

interesting numbers.

i wonder how many 4* and 5* recruits end up being busts, however a bust is defined.

I would like to see what percentage of 5*, 4*, and 3* (each) recruited by SEC schools go on to be All-SEC (1st or 2nd team) as well as drafted. That might be an accurate representation, but it seems like it would provide some insight...

I did a little research and there are currently 32 Rivals five star prospects on SEC rosters heres the breakdown

Alabama: 1
Arkansas: 1
Auburn: 1
Florida: 10
Georgia: 4
Kentucky: 0
LSU: 6
Miss St: 0
Ole Miss: 1
South Car: 1
Tennessee: 7
Vandy: 0

Ok and out of these 32 they broke down like this:

1st Team All SEC: 4
2nd Team All SEC: 2
Freshman All SEC: 3
Starters on their Team: 5
2nd String, next year projected starter: 9
2nd String Upperclassmen (Bust?): 4
Redshirt this year: 3
Injured: 1
2nd String project started in two years: 1

So there's some numbers to digest.

I took a look at Ainge's class and the one just after it. Out of about 24 4* players UT signed, 6 aren't currently on the roster. The only 5* still eligible for those two years is Morley.
