I was looking at some of the other recruiting classes for 2011 and saw that Florida had picked up Ja'Juan Story, who is listed as a 4 star WR, yet he is the 26 best WR in the country.

Compare that to Tom Smith (TN Commit 2011) he is the 27th best RB in the country and yet he is a 3 star.

*BOTH ARE FROM FLORIDA.

People have mentioned that Rivals does not bump prospects up based on their offer list, but they are completely full of it.

Have fun comparing Ja'Juan Story and Tom Smith

Not sure exactly what your trying to compare as Story has a better offer list.

people have said that rivals does not care about offer list, yet if you look at STORY's offer list its off the chart, hence why he is a higher rated prospect by STARS, compared to our commit Tom Smith.

these coaches could care less about what rivals and scout has to say. coaches know their systems and who will fit into it and who will be a better athlete. these guys that do these recruiting rankings are just stupid

Well Smith is a 5.7, and story is a 5.8 so were talkin bout if Smith was a step faster he'd be a 4 star so its not really a big deal.

i feel like we are sitting good with this talent we got right now, and people will even be surprised next year by how well we perform.

You are also comparing a RB to a WR and inferring that their star rating coincides with their positional ranking. Those numbers lead me to believe that WR is a deeper position this year, or at least heavier in top-end talent, than RB. That being said, star ratings are completely subjective anyway and that 4-star WR out of high school is likely to put up solid 2-star college numbers at Florida as long as their offense continues to struggle as it currently does. (I know the last part there has nothing to do with the topic, just wanted to take a free shot at the Gators.)

i think florida will be 10x better next year since they have some solid young talent. but me and the good lord have been having some convo and i've prayed urbie steps down and they hire a zookjr.

Haven't looked but just wondering how many WR's Story is being compared to vs. Smith and the amount of RB's??

In other words, if Story is the #26 WR out of 100 and Smith is the #27 RB out of 28, I could see the star rating difference...

Of course, I'm not much of a stargazer, so doesn't really matter to me....

thats what it is, i just figure it out, story is #26 out of 90, where as SMITH is #27 out of 55, still if he was the #24 best back he would be a 4th star. what a load of crap

At least it will end with UT as the SEC champ! :)

See 2010. They were grossly overrated going into this season based on "solid young talent." They have to find a new OC before they will get 10x better in my opinion. So pray that they keep the current staff in place. :)

Also, there is not a qb on that roster that can win a SEC title.

As far as the Rivals rankings go, there has to be a cut off between 4* and 3* somewhere. It just happens to fall between these two guys rankings. a high 3* is not really any different that a low 4*. Don't worry about it dude. Many of our 3* recruits had the potential to be 4* but were evaluated to finish just outside of the top 300 athletes.

Here is how Rivals explains their rankings....
Players are ranked numerically on a national level at their positions. The numerical ranking at each position varies depending on the depth of the talent at the position.

Players are also ranked on their quality with a star ranking. A five-star prospect is considered to be one of the nation's top 25-30 players, four star is a top 250-300 or so player, three-stars is a top 750 level player, two stars means the player is a mid-major prospect and one star means the player is not ranked.

The ranking system ranks prospects on a numerical scale from 6.1-4.9.

6.1 Franchise Player; considered one of the elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation's top 25 players overall; deemed to have excellent pro potential; high-major prospect

6.0-5.8 All-American Candidate; high-major prospect; considered one of the nation's top 300 prospects; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team

5.7-5.5 All-Region Selection; considered among the region's top prospects and among the top 750 or so prospects in the country; high-to-mid-major prospect; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team

5.4-5.0 Division I prospect; considered a mid-major prospect; deemed to have limited pro potential but definite Division I prospect; may be more of a role player

4.9 Sleeper; no Rivals.com expert knew much, if anything, about this player; a prospect that only a college coach really knew about

In other words, high 3* are really good regardless of what the star gazers tell you!

I'm not that worried about Florida. I've seen the ceiling they have (Tebow and co.), they will never have that again. Florida doesn't even know what the hell kind of offensive team they are. Brantley blows, Burton is garbage, and I didn't see any resemblence of them progressing through the year.

It sounds weird saying this, but as long as Urban Meyer stays with them and keeps Addazio, they will continue to spin their tires.
