I hope in the near future Tennessee can start locking down most of the top ten in the State. It's sad when you see Usc and Ucla stealing some of our best players. You would think those two could get their guys from a 400 mile radius of LA.

There are always gonna be guys who want to go away from home for college. It's not a recent phenomenon (remember Lynn Swann?) and it's not ever going to stop happening completely. Not something that's specific to us, either.

Not surprising based on what we have heard about Dooley's relationships with TN HS coaches. I think this staff will get back to picking up most of the top 10 in state every year. We have to weather the Vandy storm for a year or two, but Franklin will either move on or they will come back to earth. They are getting better recruits, but they still cannot compete every year. Their permament West opponent is Ole Miss, who is getting better. We will have to battle Ole Miss for some Western TN recruits.

I thought that Vandy owned the state now???? They must not have realized that UT has more and higher ranked players out of that top 25 than they do. :D

Hate to say it but most kids should go out of state. Its called life.

If your definition of life is that independence and achievement are more important than close friends and family bonds then you would be correct. The longer I live, the more I have come to disagree.

Can't possibly overstate my severe dislike if not pure hatred of Franklin and Pansybilt. I get almost as much pleasure seeing recruits decommit Pansybilt as I do seeing them commit to UT.....almost.

I once heard Charlie Choo Choo Justice speak. He made the point that all things being equal always try to go to a school in your home state or at least close to your home state. Because once either your college or pro career is over and you need career opportunities you would have built a life time of friends and classmates, and you will be well know as a native son, it tends to make career opportunities more available. That was a long time ago, this may have changed now.

Cool! Another degrading nickname for Peabody...or Vanderpea...or Peabilt...Or Vanderbody...I don't think the few acres that is home to the commode doors is really actually IN Tennessee.....I sure don't claim them! Most of the younger people don't seem to dislike candy like they should because they only remember them beating us twice, but now that they think they're so high & mighty because they beat us this year, people are seeing their true colors, especially since Franklin is such a tool! ...In fact, I only remember the Doormats beating us 4 times in 50 years of following the Vols, which shows how irrelevant they are!

Wow two five stars and seven four stars and we only have one with an outside shot at two. That's weak. I understand some kids wanna get out of Tennessee but I feel like we should at least be able to land one of the top five instate kids. Dooley hosed us here with his alleged lack of love for the instate guys. Hate to keep beating the dead horse but c'Mon man that's atrocious. getting von bell helps ease the pain some if we land him but that's a ton of missed opportunities.

We need a RB and we couldn't get Elder or Wilkins? Awesome. Not gonna put too much blame on the current staff for that one, though.

Aren't we talking about the life of 18 year olds who want to see the world and enjoy college life?

Just a couple of notable facts.

TN got 6 of the top 25 in TN
GA for 7 of the top 25 in GA
FL got 9 of the top 25 in FL
AL got 5 of the top 25 in AL
AU got 5 of the top 25 in AL
LSU got 12 of the top 25 in LA

Man the Ramsey to USC is just so hard to stomach. What lil kiffie did to us is just unthinkable. And yet he is still able to come in here and get our best player. Add to that USC is a total train wreck and it makes even less sense. They started the year ranked no.1 in the country and finished with 6 losses playing in the PAC 12. That is just amazing! Point blank...we had a better program than they did this year if u factor in strength of schedule. And they have a 5* player at every position. Why the hell would a kid like Ramsey sign up for that. Kiffie will almost certainly be gone in a year or two and he has to compete with all this other talent just to get of the field. Compare it to us...he could almost certainly play right away, in the sec, and just down the road from home. Some things just absolutely make zero sense. And before the flamers come in, I'm not bashing the kid. It's is his right to do whatever he wants. Just hard to understand the logic

I want him on the hill as bad as anyone. However, let me ask you this, did you think very logical at 18???

The good news is that Tennessee appears to have a ton of talent next year and the Vols should have a great shot to clean up in state.

The thing is, it's not about just the program or the coaches, it's about the school itself too. USC is one of the best colleges in the nation along with a strong commitment to sports. It's a great climate for those who do not like the cold. It is also in LA and 10 minutes from the beach. I can also see Kiffin BS'ing these kids about how his players party with actresses and roll with Will Farrell. It is also really hard to ignore how gorgeous the campus is and the girls on it.

Therefore, to me, it makes some sort of a sense.

I agree - all kids except Tennessee kids that is :)

Unless they are high ranked, they can get to stepping. UT should lock in the best of the state, and cherry pick the rest of the class from surrounding states. Period.

Although Swann was born in Alcoa, his family moved to Cali when he was two years old IIRC...

That is the UT coaches fault, should have gotten Lynn to commit at the age of two before moving terrible evaluation. :birgits_giggle:

I'm no recruitnik, but JRM, Austin Sanders, and Jason Carr make three. Or am I missing something?
