I didn't go to high school in Knoxville, and never really followed high school football here... What are some of the bigger rivalry games in the Knoxville area? I'm interested in going to see a couple high school games this Fall and was interested in going to some of the local rivalry games... Anyone care to suggest what games I should target?

If u go about 20 min. to maryville the battle of the state champions Maryville vs. Alcoa and what think is a big rivalry ever since maryville hit our qb out of bounds and nearly broke his neck my high school William blount vs. maryville.

Awesome, thanks guys. I guess I should say I don't mind going to surrounding counties like anderson, blount, sevier etc.

Dobyns Bennent (Kingsport) would be an interesting team to check out. That school always seems to turn up good teams.

Bearden v. Farragut
Austin East v. Fulton
Webb v. Catholic
Alcoa v. Maryville

These are probably the 4 best.

That's what I was looking for, thanks for posting that.

Is there a suggestion for which stadiums to go to? Such as the Maryville/Alcoa game, which stadium is better to watch this at...which home team crowd is more in to it etc.

It's been a few years since I've been in high school but from what I remember...

The Bearden/Farragut game is always pretty rowdy no matter where it is played. Only been to one game at Austin East and it was pretty calm, but I wasn't there for the AE/Fulton game. Webb and Catholic always seemed to be a pretty crazy game just because the two schools simply don't like each other at all. The student sections are usually pretty loud and the other fans can get pretty loud, too. Never been to a Maryville/Alcoa game, but know people who have and it's pretty hard to find seats at either place if you don't get there 45 minutes to an hour early. From what I've heard, it's pretty even at both Maryville and Alcoa for which home crowd is into the game. The 2 schools are only about 10 minutes away from each other so it's usually pretty even in the stands and makes it fun to watch.

Both schools are awesome environments. The stands are always full and it's usually 3 deep standing around the field.

Are there any Knox West folk on here?

I'll be making my way down there to watch Sullivan South run all over you. :p

Not a traditional rivalry, but Oak Ridge at Maryville on Sept 24 is a game that's been talked about for at least 15 years. The big slam against Maryville has always been that they were a 4A school and didn't have to play the 5A schools, and previous to the last 5 or so years, OR has been one of the better 5A teams. They're both 6A now.
