Still think OSU-Michigan is up there cause of the Toledo strip dispute. I also think that Missouri-Kansas is up there cause their hatred....... it get's roughIf you were to take football out of the equation, which schools have the biggest combined rivalries.
In other words, take all the other sports, average their level of hate, which schools have the biggest combined rivalries?
IMO, MICH/OSU drops way down the list.
With men’s college basketball being the next most popular sport in college athletics there really isn’t one that’s particularly close to Duke vs UNC. I’d say the Duke vs UNC rivalry is bigger than a lot of football rivalries. It’s not a product of ESPN or social media like I’m sure some will wrongly claim, or have already wrongly claimedDuke/NC would be my number 1. If there's a bigger one I just am too ignorant to know about it.
And what about other Duke/UNC sports? Same hate? With men’s college basketball being the next most popular sport in college athletics there really isn’t one that’s particularly close to Duke vs UNC. It’s the same hate. That’s gonna happen when your schools are 8 miles apart. There’s just not the same level of performance throughout the athletics, bc that would be nearly impossible. Theres usually not as much on the line in terms of rankings, post season implications. UNC women’s soccer is outstanding, Duke and UNC lacrosse are both good, but Duke is better. UNC and Duke baseball is competitive, Duke is finally starting to field a consistently good baseball group, UNC is always pretty solid. The football rivalry has the “Victory Bell” and of course both sides talk their junk, but I’d say UNC vs NC State is a bigger hate fest for football. Ironically, Duke currently has the best football program in the state of North Carolina. And what about other Duke/UNC sports? Same hate?
Sort of like Maryville / Alcoa? It’s the same hate. That’s gonna happen when your schools are 8 miles apart.
The best way I can equate for those who haven’t experienced this rivalry or one like it is this way…
Imagine if Tennessee and Florida were located 8 miles apart. And the level of play they mostly maintained for the last 40 + years was comparable to the teams that were fielded of the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. You would live and work with these people daily, you wouldn’t just see them at home games or SEC tournaments, you shop at the grocery store, go to church, kids play little league etc… that’s what makes it different than most.
Duke/ UNC is the greatest rivalry and it has nothing to do with their fans. They merely have been ranked highest among rivals for the past 30 years.Duke/NC would be my number 1. If there's a bigger one I just am too ignorant to know about it.
Oh idk. I want to see Bama, Florida lose every game of every sportDuke/ UNC is the greatest rivalry and it has nothing to do with their fans. They merely have been ranked highest among rivals for the past 30 years.
No one cares about teams outside of their own unless said teams are where we want to be.. Did anyone care about the Duke/UNC football game this year? Same fans.. I guess no one wanted to compete for 7-5 this year.
Yet Duke won the ACC Championship.Duke/ UNC is the greatest rivalry and it has nothing to do with their fans. They merely have been ranked highest among rivals for the past 30 years.
