from the Chattanooga Times Free Press:

New leadership has already (if only slightly) emerged in the locker room.

Junior quarterback Jonathan Crompton and junior defensive tackle Dan Williams have been keeping close tabs on their young teammates the past few weeks, checking on their class attendance and tutor appointments. Williams said he hadn’t missed either “in a long time.”

“First off, we’ve got to finish the semester in the classroom,” Crompton said. “But after that, we’ve got to have same mindset going in to work hard every day and get some workouts in before everybody goes home before Christmas.

“We leave after we’re done with finals, so up until then, it’s just if you’re injured, just relax and get healthy and rehab. And if you’re not, work out and get your schoolwork done.”

Good to see our rising seniors showing a little bit of leadership off the field.

I'm really scared that Crompton will start the season at QB next year. I know Boyd is coming in, but I don't think Lane will have the cajones to start him as a true freshman. I have a sick feeling Boyd makes his first start AFTER we get pounded by Florida.

Sorry for the depressing thought...

It's a fresh start for everyone. Apparently Kiffin has opened every job up for spring practice, and if Crompton proves that he's the best out there, then he can prove to me that this year was a fluke.

If it's a fresh start, then we should hope that even our grossly underperforming players can turn it around.

No need to carry grudges for pitiful performances this year into the Kiffin era. It's a new game, and we'll have to wait and see which players are willing to go forward.

True. I'm not holding a grudge against him, but I would just be disappointed to see the same thing happen if Crompton started the first few games. He definitely has the potential... #3 QB in his class out of HS. Hopefully he can put this year behind him, let Lane work with him, and then make solid contributions next year either as a starter or backup.

Well if Lane can get Crompton to live up to his potential (as he was rated when he was recruited) and ol' JC comes out next season a runnin gunnin BA, you'll know Lane is a hell of a coach.

Crompton has always been a decent leader and a UT spokesman. His knack for bouncing passes at WR's is what pisses me off.

I wouldn't give up on Crompton. If Ainge can come back to be productive after his disaster of a sophomore season, then Crompton can come back from this year.

Point taken. Theres very few here that have been more critical of Crompton than me, if any. But as someone just said above it's a fresh start across the board. Show me somethin next year JC...PLEASE! :good!:

Come on Boyd! JC had his chance IMO.

Agreed. The reason he got the job in the first place was because he did so well in the spring and in practices, but then choked on the field. I say lets get someone new in there. Lets go Boyd!

Exactly.

I'm willing to say Crompton played better than Ainge did the entire 2005 season.

Was Kiffin not recruiting coordinator at USC when Cromton was in HS? I would think that he would be familiar with him more than others (outside of EB) coming to UT.

Josh McNeil has a funny story about his recruiting visit to USC.

I was thinking the same. I was off the JC bandwagon as quick as anyone. That was when the fate of the season was in the balance too.
I hope with new coaching he can turn his career around like Ainge did when he got some new coaching.

Coming from the UCS coaching family, I am positive Kiffin will make the right choice. They play the best player period out there.

was is something to do with trying to find a dip in SoCal?

He put a dip in while he was in the locker room. He said everybody just stared at him like "what the hell are you doing?"

He said that's when he knew he wasn't going to be a trojan.
