The fondest memory I'll have of Schintzius is when a Candy fan thought they had the game won and threw a tennis ball at him when Fla had turned the ball over with 2 seconds remaining down by 2. Candy received a technical foul and Schintzius buried both free throws to send the game into OT. Fla ended up winning the game in OT and the SEC regular season title by one game over Candy. LMAO. Talk about karma. Only Candy could do something so stupid and it end up costing them a title.

You knew former UT coach Don Devoe and Schintzius were like mixing oil and water. Would've been fun just to watch those two have to coexist for an entire season.

When they had the celebration at Florida Field (it wasn't The Swamp yet), students brought tennis balls and threw them at the team, then we rushed the field. I immediately sought out Livingston Chatman and Clifford Lett.

I was a junior at UF at the time, campus was nuts that weekend we clinched the SEC title. I worked at Champs Sports, and we had a run on tennis balls before the team celebration....good times.

It's hard to believe that was their first conference title. Hell, it's hard to believe that they didn't win a SEC tourney title until 2005.

All of of Fla's football and hoops history has occurred (title wise) in the last 20-22 years.

There were a lot of years where one guy was carrying the basketball team, and one or two guys carried the football team. (maybe not that bad, but it sure seemed that way)

A lot of great players, just not a lot at the same time.

But it does seem odd to me also that it has all been in such a short time period.

We do have an entire team that are still considered fugitives from justice in Cuba, if that counts for anything.

EDIT: and what was I thinking. RIP to DS. Misunderstood and misunderstandings are the two words that I think sum up his personal life. Im glad that he finally got to enjoy who he was for a while before it all came to an end.
