RIP Bill Walton

If not for foot injury, Portland would've won at least 2 more titles.

One of the true icons of the sport. People forget because of the eccentric personality he’s one of the most talented basketball players to ever grace the earth. His body just didn’t cooperate.

And nothing was better than being half drunk on a Saturday night winding down and listening to him during a PAC-12 game

He was calling games last season wasn't he? He was a little quirky, but he stayed true to his nature. Seemed like he got the most out of life.

I grew up vaguely aware of him. I remember my Dad telling me this teen-wolf looking center was a great player, and particularly a great passer.

Then I hit my teens and he was doing broadcasts. My friends and I would laugh our asses off playing N64 basketball (I think it was NBA Courtside?) at his commentary. We were laughing more at him than with him, not knowing he's in on the joke.

The guy was such a good personality and representative of basketball, the NBA, the PAC 12, and deadheads. Always a smile. Always had a kind word for everybody. RIP

Throw it down!

Can’t believe I still remember this but I’ll never forget the 97 finals watching with my dad when Malone was melting down and him going “What is happening to Karl Malone?!?!” Like he was killing kids in a school shooting

I remember the exact play you are talking about, as I have watched the ‘97 Finals many times. It was game 5, and the Bulls had the Ball up by 1 point with about 20 seconds left. The Jazz needed to foul, but Malone wasn’t fouling, because he had 5 fouls. He was just guarding (I think Pippen) who had the ball.

Walton said, “They have to foul! Right now! They have to foul! Karl Malone, what are you doing!?!” My dad and I taped that game, watched it over and over and laughed so much.
