Has there ever been a team worse at executing the reverse? I think there are several reasons the Vols can't do it. Our wide receivers are never very good blockers. Mainly, I think every defensive coordinator in American knows when we are about to run one. Does anyone remember 2005? Everytime Lucas Taylor stepped on the field, he took a reverse. This year it's the same old crap. We march Kenny O'Neal or Brent Vinson on the field and surprise! We run a reverse. I'd say opposing coaches have heard all the rave reviews these guys have gotten for their speed and agility. I'm sure they've also heard they have hands of stone and brains of jelly. Thus, when these two step on the field, I've got to think Charlie Strong is telling his players to watch out for trickery.

Vinson had no chance on that play. There were three Gators waiting on the edge as soon as he got the ball. We are never creative on reverses. If we would fake one here and there we might have more success, and like you said "Gee, Tennessee just marched a really fast guy onto the field that never plays that much; wonder what they are gona' do?" :banghead2:

We make up for it by allowing the other teams reverses to work exceptionally well.

I've been saying this for quite some time now. Tennessee is horrible at running reverses. I even said it in the Volnation Live chatroom yesterday. Scrap it from the playbook.

Reverses were a good idea before everyone in the country had one in their playbook. Everyone has played a team that uses it. The only time that play should be run is when a DE isn't staying home on the backside.

Fans have been on the coaches wanting something new for a while now. Everyone was tired of running it up the middle. Well, the coaches heard us and this is our reward. Except there's nothing really new. I just seems like the playcalling gets worse and instead of getting that one yard on the ground, we're throwing INC passes now.

It's like telling your grandfather to listen to rap music because he's not hip anymore. Even if he does start listening to it, he's still old and he still wears black socks with shorts.

Not to be a jerk . . . but that wasn't a Reverse we tried to run yesterday.

Was it an end around? I didn't see a replay. Either way, it was a fancy way of getting the ball in a young athlete's hands that didn't work at all. Our coaching staff should just watch tape of UF last year and see what they did with Percy Harvin.

Honestly I can't remember whether he was coming from the End or from the Slot, but you're right . . . it was just trying to get the ball into a fast guy's hands.

We could pass to this guy and maybe he drops a few. That's no good. But Percy Harvin dropped several passes last year. By the end of the season, he was a gamebreaker that made a big difference in huge games against Arkansas and LSU. It might be better to just deal with the growing pains of Vinson and O'Neal.

Reminds me of that "well disguised" trick play we ran in Berkeley where we had Ainge split wide. Yeah... Ainge is going to get the ball... no really he is.

Do they think other coaches are as gullible as they are?

Tell you why reverses haven't worked in awhile. When a team doesn't respect the run or the deep pass then teams crash hard and add poor execution then there you go....a 4 yd loss on a reverse.
