It would be interesting to see where we stand on return yardage thru our tenth game in 2015. I would guess team 120 is way behind 119.

No doubt. When you lose your starting PR for a majority of the season and few people will kick to your KR (who is now also out for the season) it's bound to have a negative effect. These stats can be easily found.

Punt rets 2015..... 17.2 avg, 43.6 yds per gm
Vs
Punt rets 2016.... 11.5 avg, 35.6 yds per gm

Kick rets 2015...33.4 avg, 69 yds per gm
Vs
Kick rets 2016...25.6 avg, 62 yds per gm

Quite a difference IMO.

The only Stat that matters? W vs. L stats were created to create a conversation up in the booth. The spread offense was created to cause a mismatch on the field and to score quickly. Look at Clemson..........93 plays and still lost to Pitt......so, to me, stats are only good for the Heisman and for sports commentators. The W is the best and most revealing stat of ALL TIME.

Go Vols!!!

An extra 6-8 yards per return for starting field position makes a huge difference. That's the difference in being in field goal range or having to punt in a lot of cases. That has been the biggest difference between this year and last. It felt like we had great starting field position on almost every single drive last year because of the explosive returns in both kickoff and punt. I don't have any facts or stats to back it up but I bet it has equated to us scoring about 3-7 less points per game because of it. That would've made the difference in the A&M and South Carolina games.

I seem to remember someone posted a good summary early season, showing 2015's offensive results were achieved MAINLY on favorable field position from punt and ko returns.
