Retread or Up-and-Comer?

Given the history of the SEC teams hiring retread SEC coaches (see Orgeron, Houston Nutt, Spurrier, Muschamp). If you had to pick one from the list below of “retreads” or “up-and-comers”, which is your preference?

A retread is a guy thats fired from his previous job (i.e. Rick Barnes). Most of those guys (except Miles) arent retreads.

The five up and comers are huge risks imo given the time we are in this program's move out of being irrelevant. :zeitung_lesen:

I agree. None of the above. There are other coaches out there that might come to UT who have had big success. You've got to ask Gruden and Kelly and make them say no. I think you go to Patterson at TCU next and make an offer significant enough to make him think about moving out of an inferior conference. :rock::good!:

Appears given our desperation to get a big name and win (Assume Kelly is a "no"), we're willing to check our integrity at the door and roll with Petrino then?

Petrino is the hot, crazy chick. The fun times are incredible but the aftermath can be difficult once the new wears off.

If we can't get Patterson or Peterson, and I doubt we can, get Kelly or Kiffin. I'm not sold on Kelly because I think Tennessee would be just a job to him. He is worth serious pursuit--but is he a fit? Kelly had the good stretch at Oregon but that could have been a one-off: he had a great QB; there is not a lot of recruiting competition in the Northwest. Say what you want about Jones, but he loves the Vols--and that is a great quality to have in a coach.

Kiffin would want to redeem himself for Tennessee fans, IMO. Kiffin can coach QBs and offense, and he knows both the SEC and Tennessee VERY WELL. That is important, in my view. Both he and Kelly would surely do well recruiting.

After those four maybe Petrino, but has best years may be behind him. That is certainly true of Miles.

Coordinators are a roll of the dice. You might hit a 7 or you might get snake eyes. Better to go with a guy who's been a head coach.

I actually hope our next hire is not on this list, as well....Chip Kelly, obviously. I don't think we are getting Patterson out of Fort Worth. As with previous threads, I think a good Plan B would be Mike Bobo at Co State.

The only ones on this list that should even garner a thought is Petrino and Miles. The rest should not even register a blip on UTs radar.

None of the above. Chip Kelly then Gruden and rest don't even register on the excitement scale.

Chip Kelly 110% excitement
Jon Gruden 95% excitement
the rest is meh.

If that list is all we have to choose from... Is it really worth firing CBJ just so some will have a new coach to piss and moan about?

Well. George Quarles has college experience on his resume' now, so, that makes him a no brainer.

Really disappointed in some of the Maryville fans for not pointing this out before I did. :shades:

NO RETREADS...not no, but hell no...going with Mike Norvell...he's the one and only coach for us right now...covers all the coaching attributes for me...better get him while we can...hide and watch...:)

PS. whomever Mr. Currie hires I sure hope it works for him...:):)

Petrino is Denise Richards. Hottest thing going for a all too short window. Immortalized for epic lesbian scene with the chick from Scream. Bad marriage and kids with a dude that currently has AIDS. Aged horribly and can’t buy an acting role.
