Watched it about a month ago as well and it is a must-see. Gives you a different perspective on the brutal fighting taking place over there right now.

Sabastien Junger and co did amazing job. Couldn't stop watching. Would like to see a follow up in 5 years or so, see what happens to those guys.

My brother's a marine in Afghanistan right now. I watched it and am going to make sure that my mom NEVER sees it so long as my brother is in the service. It was a good movie, but she got hysterical when we didn't hear from him for 3 weeks.

Great movie. Have issues with the Company Commander and his nonchalant attitude towards preparation (or, as he calls it, "keeping an open mind").

Amazing thing is that he was later awarded the MacArthur Award for Leadership and is now working in a community that demands meticulous attention to detail and precise planning.

I was kind of surprised from his first interview on the movie, when the conversation turned to where I realized he was a Company 6.

The train of thought that "Everyone else must have been FUBAR, I'll take care of it in 2 weeks" was somewhat worrisome, I guess.

It was a great story and a great glimpse into the mess that is small unit combat, and the people that do it. Through a balance of fate and the calendar, I never got in the ****, but everyone who has ever been an NCO teared up when the section sergeant was killed clearing the ridge, and the reaction of his soldiers.

Guess I'm going to have to buy this, because I can't seem to catch it on TV.

His final words in his final report (twitter) were, "no sign of NATO".

NATO, another in a long line of political jokes.

Damn. I really liked this guy's work and Restrepo was amazing. He truly had a noble goal of exposing these conflicts to everyday people. He'll be missed...

Saw a documentary yesterday about an early battle in Afghanistan, A 1/2 company of Rangers with some spooks holding down 700-1000 Taliban on a mountaintop, Strike Fighters were dropping big bombs well within danger close, at some point the US command got worried about dropping close, and an Aussie SAS unit on a LRRP in the area took over directing CAS and got it done.

Not sure how that worked, but it did.
