For all the negavols out there who aren't happy with the progression of the team, i would like to direct you to the below stats. I personally think it's obvious that this team is much improved from previous years. Keep in mind that our easiest games are ahead of us and the 2015 stats will only improve.

Team Stats 2013:
Passing yards - 113th (164.9/gm)
Rushing yards - 53rd (188.4/gm)
Points for - 106th (23.8/gm)
Points against - 69th (24.2)

Team Stats 2014:
Passing yards - 65th (224.2/gm)
Rushing yards - 83rd (146.4/gm)
Points for - 83rd (28.9/gm)
Points against - 69th (24.2)

Team Stats 2015 (through 9 games)
Passing yards - 77th (215/gm)
Rushing yards - 29th (207.3/gm)
Points for - 31st (35/gm)
Points against - 49th (24.2)

Year 3 improvements:
Passing yards: +50.1/gm
Rushing yards: +18.9/gm
Points for: +11.2/gm
Points against: push

Go Vols and sit down naysayers.

All that matters is W or L. It appears that we will continue the steady improvement in that category. While its not happening as quick as most would like it to, it does appear to be happening.

2013 = 5-7
2014 = 7-6
2015 = possibly 9-4 (must play better than we did yesterday)

If the above happens, even the haters cant deny the steady improvement.

Great win yesterday. I understand the complaining because it looked like we should roll but it's the SEC and 1 point wins are just as good. Ask Florida.
We are trending up and it's imperative to finish strong.

Let's be excited for a possible 3 game SEC and 4 game SEC win streak after Missouri and vandy.

Someone fact check the last time we did that. We are razor thin.. And when this squad is healthy next year and we add more talented freshman. Watch out SEC

It's pretty obvious if you have watched the games that TN is better. Hopefully we win out and 3 of our 4 losses will be to top ten teams.

To people with the sense God gave a blade of grass you're correct. But some of the dunder heads in this place... not so much.

Now that's you stirring up the Negavols. We are on a winning streak, the Negavols(the 99, but the other one will never be happy) will be quite until the next loss, then they will be back at it. Maybe 2017 negavols, but for now sit down.

Go Vols!

Their lust for bashing is to strong. They can't wait that long. Even on wins they find ways to bash. It's what they live for.

For some reason the Vols always get their opponents best game no matter who it is. No one has a bad game.

We are a circle game for every team we play, that's TENNESSEE football. There is nothing sweeter than beating the Vols.

Go Vols!

Many lack shame. It's like a true lust. Emotional and without logic or reason.

Your probably right. I understand the emotional, I get that way too. I've got twin two year olds, that are more mature than some on here. Maybe it's a lack of self worth, the ole, pull you down to make me feel better. I don't know, but what a sad way to go thru life.

That's why I laugh at them. I use their posts for comic relief.

I like many here. Was very upset by the early season losses. Not the losses themselves, but the way they where lost. I put the blame squarely on the coaches. So this is not a Blind endorsement of CBJ and staff. As i know they as coaches have some work to do just as the team does. But here's a stat that also clearly shows progress IS being made. Average margin of defeat!
2010 (Dooley's 1st)-18 including by 14 to Fl, 27 Geo, 31 Bama
2011 -19 Including by 10 to FL, 31 LSU, 31 Bama, 41 Ark
2012 -17 including by 17 to FL, 31 Bama, 23 Vandy
2013 (CBJ 1st) -23 Including by 45 to Ore, 35 Bama, 32 Aub
2014 -13.5 including by 24 to OK, 31 Miss, 14 Bama
And then there's this Year where the Average margin of Defeat is -4 Including by 7 to OK, 1 to FL, 4 to ARk, and 5 to Bama.
This to me shows as much as any stat that our team is improving. Yes we could be 7-1 or 8-0, but at least it seems gone are the days of getting run out of the stadium by the best teams we face, and back are the days of us having a good chance to win any game we are in! :good!:

We were 7-6 (6-6 w/o bowl win) last year, not 7-5.

9-4 looks a lot better than 7-6, hopefully we can get there.

Steady improvement is undeniable. I can even see that

Butch not learning from his mistakes is equally undeniable.

Until he stops helping the other teams by not taking timeouts and actually learns how to make second half adjustments, he'll never truly challenge in this league.

The time outs taken have always been to help us get in a better play. And yes too many times it benefited the other team as well.

I feel we have to adjust at the line, by checking off to a better play by our QB. If he is not coached to do that then he needs to be, if he is just not checking off, the reason needs to be identified, and corrected.

Defensive adjustments are easy, 1) stop the run, 2) pressure the QB, how these are accomplished are based off match ups on the line and at the LB positions. If Cam can't cover their #1 receiver, on an island then, then you get into the chess part of it, and there is another whole internet for that aspect. The short on it is, don't get caught guessing pass when they are about to run it( see # 1. It really helps to have more player that are better, and that is recruiting and practice M-F, and no they don't get Sundays off till after the bowl game.

Go Vols!

Here is how to visualize the improvement on a continuum, going back to 2009. These are the score differentials of the games played. There is a significant upwards trend with 2015 being potentially the first time since 2009 that UT can end up with a winning SEC record.

Or, if you're one of those that says wins and losses are all that matter, well...here is a chart showing UT's SEC wins. **IF** UT win's out, it will only be the 6th time since 2002 that UT has won 5 or more SEC games.

SEC wins per year.jpg

If you look at those charts and don't see significant improvement and a trend line going in the right direction for the first time since the early 2000's, then you are either being willfully obtuse, or are claiming the purest of ignorance of how bad things have actually been. Neither position deserves any sort of merit or consideration.

Your conclusions are a bit misleading. Yes we are averaging more passing yards overall, but we have taken a step back from last year in that category and the yards our 4 and 5* receivers have through 9 games is embarrassing. Our defense is basically the same but with better players so you can make the argument that we've regressed a bit. Rushing game has improved, I'll give you that. And most importantly, the record will probably be 1 to 2 wins better than last year.
