From a Sunday article about the game...
Flustered athletic director Mike Hamilton sat in the back of the room for Fulmer’s postgame news conference, and he politely declined comment while leaving the stadium.

“Showing some respect for Phillip tonight,” Hamilton said.

Much has been written lately about respecting Phil Fulmer's contributions to his alma mater. About making sure this coaching change is handled in a way that gives credit for a lifetime of dedication from a good man.

I've written as much many times on these web pages.

Enough is enough.

Now it's time Phil showed us a little respect and gets this over with.

There is plenty of time to finagle the contractual details, but the plain fact needs to be said out loud.

Step up to the mic Phil, and let this nightmare be over.

That I'll respect.

Can't be said any better than that folks.

"I've never had back-to-back losing seasons. Give us one more year to turn it around". One more year - one more year - one more year

Hard times for Phil and the program. Agree OWH. He need to step up and do the right thing.

I'm angry right now.

Not at the state of the program... I'm well past angry over that.

It infuriates me that this has not yet been resolved.
Three weeks of nothing from Hamilton.

Somebody needs to announce the obvious.

And I mean...NOW!!

I agree with you. I guess in a way I feel sorry for Fulmer, but a lot of this he is bringing on himself by being so stubborn and having a big ego. He needs to realize he can not out coach Meyer, Richt, Saban, Spurrier, etc., and that he is driving this program in the ground. If he really does love the University, then he needs to step up to the Mic just as you said and get it over with so we can get a new coach that can actually build this program back up.

Bingo! I have tried to give MH the benefit of the doubt on this deal but I am growing frusturated with the way he is handling things. It's approaching the point where I would like to see him go too. I agree that respect is a two way street and some respect needs to be shown to the fans and the rest of the University. Let's get this over with now!

He should go, along with any idiot that approved that idiotic contract.

I'm not familar with the details. What would we be looking at costwise for canning Fulmer without the contract renegotiation?

Let's relax. Fulmer has the upper hand in this whole thing. The admin obviously doesn't want to fire him for many reasons and he knows it. He can afford to stretch this thing out to achieve the optimum benefit out of this whole thing through negotiations. Remember, it's not just him, it's his staff buyouts involved too, and his possible role in the program going forward. Lots of loose ends to consider, like payoffs, income taxes, time frames for payoffs, moving expenses, Phil's and other long-time coach's retirement benefits, etc.

yep, UT needs to pull the trigger on this before the top coaches are already taken, and we're like 'bama was for the past 14 seasons...

I sent MH an email stating pretty much the same thing a few weeks ago. Either publicly support Fulmer or publicly announce Fulmer is retiring. Stop the speculation, it is giving us a black eye nationally and making Vol on Vol crime increase. I was polite in the email.

When I've written him in the past, he has always written back. It's been 2+ weeks since I've sent that email and I haven't heard anything.

I know the buyout is a additional 1.5 million because of the contract. The extension made it more. It would be somewhere around 4 million had he not got that extension. As it stands its right at 6 million.

Retirement and some kind of cushy job in the development office raising money for the university on a part time basis....I could live quite well on what he will get from the retirement system and I would hope he has some investments that did not tank over the past few weeks. He needs to step up and retire....He has done good things for the university but it is time for new blood. I am tired of waiting. In the past waiting for the announcement has not been the case when coaches were replaced....It happens a lot....
