The tourney's 1st big upset from yesterday has left this city rockin'! As many of you know, VCU is in downtown Richmond. It's funny because, even with a 27-6 season, I didn't hear many around here touting the Rams until yesterday, but now they're talkin' bout a deep run in the tourney, Mason-style. But honestly, imo, VCU may be too strong to qualify for Cinderella status. Commonwealth is a good school, but they're normally very much under the radar here sportswise. Now the locals turn their attention a little westward to the Cavs. They talk about Ralph Sampson around here like they talk about the Bear down in 'Bama.
A little surprisingly, most here seem to think UVA will likely lose to Albany today, and virtually no locals seem to give them a chance if they play us in 2nd round. I think the view towards them is tainted by a couple things, though: Most around here prefer another school further south in a little town called Blacksburg. Secondly, UVA's legacy of sub-par teams and early tournament exits, has left the locals feeling a little uninspired. Kind of like some Vol b-ball fans, I guess, but the support for UVA around here (and outside of Charlotesville, at least) isn't a drop in the ocean compared with fan support of the Vols across the state in TN.
At any rate, here's givin' a shout out to our boys against LBSU today. I saw the thread where someone had posted a rhyme about us on a Long Beach message board; it's kind of sad that, when an opponent has nothing else to offer us in the way of smack, they invariably play the redneck card. Funny.
GO VOLS!!!!
