Report: Da'Rick Rogers allegedly assaulted man

Cox told officers that Rogers "pushed him and attempted to hit him while attempting to stop Rogers from leaving," the report states, but "Cox had no injuries and was adamant about not prosecuting."
So the guy he "assaulted" didn't sustain any injuries....

One of the reports states that officers arrived at the Bar Knoxville, 1820 Cumberland Ave., to investigate a reported assault and were told by Ian Cox, 30, that he had tried "to detain the suspect (Rogers) for another assault that had taken place on the sidewalk."
Exactly how did this noble citizen try to detain Rogers? How many assaults are we up to now?

On a sports call-in radio show on WNML on Friday, a caller identifying himself as "Allen" and claiming to be a co-owner of Bar Knoxville said he witnessed a UT player start the initial fight with the patron inside, said host Jimmy Hyams. When asked which player it was, the caller only replied "number 97," Hyams said. Nelson's jersey number is 97.
So the players wear their jerseys when they go to the bar?

I don't know that this changes anything. If he was pepper sprayed and someone came at him and tried to grab him while he couldn't see (who it was)... you can't fault him for being resistant or trying to defend himself from someone who could have been an attacker in a bar fight.

this is ridiculous. So now we're reporting a shoving contest? Really??

This obviously isn't good, but IMO it's not a worst-case scenario. Clearly this is nowhere near the worst part of the brawl.

Ultimately, the biggest losers in this ordeal will be the player(s) who mauled, kicked and punched the off-duty officer while he was unconscious. That will probably lead to a dismissal.

If the incident described above involving Cox is the worst thing Rogers did, I don't think he'll get dismissed. Probably just suspended or some other major punishment..

All in all, this whole thing sucks and I wish it would just go away...

Cox was obviously in the process of a citizen's arrest.
I fully expect to be assaulted with great vigor if I'm trying to physically detain someone who has just come out of a environment with a physical altercation. Maybe that's just me though. I figure we will have quite a few knights in shining armor come forward for their fifteen minutes of fame.

I almost feel like they are trying to imply that Rogers hit the off duty officer by saying that that Cox was trying to detain him for an assault that happened outside.

Well...if he WAS pepper sprayed inside the club....going outside while a fight is still semi going on and someone starts grabbing on you in all the chaos....you can't trully see and with all the adrenalin I think I might defend myself too in all the commotion.
