That's actually the one Panthers game I went to. Hell of an experience
maybe, i can see that.
it certainly played out that way til the end....iirc, all the hosts of Inside the NFL picked AZ to win the NFC title game.
that worked out. i think at this point, even with 17 wins, we just don't look like the typical successful team.
we don't look like the 90's cowboys or 80's 49ers...schematically on offense, it's way different, the attitude, and fun loving nature of the team, the antics on the sidelines, how the QB behaves...all rolls up in to something people "aren't used to, so it can't possibly work...."
hell, i didn't trust it until about week 9 or 10. it took me a while to figure out you could "depend" on this offense.
and for a non panther fan, i can imagine that journey is a lot longer than it is for me.
Thanksgiving against Dallas was when I knew we had something very special this year and that anything but a Super Bowl title would be a significant disappointment. I'm not sure what it was exactly about that game, as Dallas was awful this season, but maybe it was that Thanksgiving Day spotlight, the all-blue unis, the fact it took us to 10-0 (or maybe it was 11-0), or us dancing around in the Cowboys' endzones like we owned Jerry World. Whatever it was, I knew after the way we dominated them on that stage in Dallas that this team was the real deal and that the season to that point in time was no fluke.
To be fair, they all knocked Vince Young but after scoring 24 in the 4th quarter down 21-0 to beat the Giants and the 99 yard game winning drive with only 2 minutes to work with against the Cardinals, they all backtracked and said they were wrong about Vince Young. Then Vince Young turned around proved them correct from the beginning. I'm not saying that's what will happen with Newton, but it's really just a prediction on their part. Predicting sports is gambling. You win some, you lose some. I remember the offense they used with Cam and didn't think highly of his future either based on the gimmicky offense used. People wrote off Texas Tech and Hawaii QB's for the same reason essentially. Highly successful but everyone knows it's due to the offense and the QB's who filter in and out produce as well regardless of who the QB is.

this...this is what i thought he COULDN'T do. i didn't see him as a guy that could elevate the group of WR's we had after KB went down. this is, along with several other things, is one of the chief things that has made this team special.Difference is that Vince Young's Texas team actually had talent on it. Vince Young never made anyone else better. Cam Newton makes everyone around him better. That Auburn team he won a national title with is probably one of the worst teams to ever win a title. Without him, that team probably doesn't win more than 7 or 8 games. 9 at the very max, and that would have required an above average QB. With Cam Newton at QB, our Vols could have won the national title this year, because our team this past season was more talented collectively than that Auburn team.
i think we've come a long way since "how long have you been a black quarterback?"It's not all about race. Just a little bit.
