Hey Volnation!

I need help. I need info on the Jax area. Moving there from a short stint in Madison Wisconsin, I'm from Atlanta so heat will not be an issue. I'm just happy to get out of the cold. Also I'll stop hearing about the Big Ten.

Well Good Luck to you and take it from someone who knows ... It Gets Old listening about the Least Eleven . It is sad when you have to root for Florida 2 years ago or LSWHO last year

Welcome, sir. I have been in Jacksonville since late June.

Local sports radio spends a lot of time on the Gators and Jags, as expected, with a little mixed in on the Noles.

But, I see cars with UT stickers and plates quite frequently. Most people who live here are not from this area, so there is a fairly wide division of allegiances. There are a lot of UF fans, but this isn't Gainesville - I've lived there too.

I went to Chicago Pizza and Sports Grill last night for the UT basketball game. They have a separate TV at every booth, plus big screens. Sneakers is a great place to catch a game too. And, there's also Dave & Busters.

We're about an 8-9 hour drive to Knoxville - long but manageable. It's easier to get to road games from here. Besides UF, South Carolina is the closest SEC town.

And, the low was 47 last night. Contrary to what some may think, we don't bake for 12 months down here.

I have talked to a few people and they have definitive feelings about where to live. Is the southside better!

My girlfriend lived in Jacksonville for nearly two years, went to visit her there last summer, she lived in the ponte vedra area. It was 10 minutes from the beach if that, it was a nice area.

We moved from northern VA to the Space Coast recently. Jacksonville should be a nice area. You're close to Daytona, plus should be some decent beaches. Also just south of a couple of nice resort areas in GA. You'll be about 2 hours north of Cocoa Beach. The Gator Bowl is played in that area. You may want to go on-line and see what things are available in the area. If you're a member of AAA, you may want to pick up info from them. Not sure what else you need to know.
Also cruise ships go out of Jacksonville to the Carribbean. Good area for the NFL-Jags! Tampa is on the west coast of Florida (about 3-4 hours).

I live in Southside! It's the newest area of J'ville. It's really growing.

I did like the way the whole downtown smelled like coffee in the morning thanks to the maxwell house factory. stay away from Phillips Hwy.

Southside is nice as well as Mandarin area. I live in Mandarin - which has the best rated schools in Duval County.

As far as school's go St. Jonn's County has the best rated public schools. Far better than Duval County. You can live off of County Road 210 or in World Golf Village - both nice areas. Not too far from downtown - maybe 25 minutes. Also about 25 minutes away from the Beach.

No matter where you live you want to be close to I 95 or the 9A. Do not live in Orange Park or anywhere near Blanding Blvd. Traffic is terrible. Also, stay away from the North side.

Also, for all you Vols fans in Jacksonville there is a UT alumni association that meets at Bogey's Bar & Grill in Ponte Vedra to watch games - they book up a whole section with a big screen a several other TV's - it is a great place to catch a game with fellow Volunteers.

My good friends (UT alum but not really into sports) live in Ponta Vedra Beach. They love it.

Be prepared, however, for the stench of the pulp mills. Smells like old beer.

Smells more like someone lit a decomposing cat on fire. I used to do contract work in different mills in Brunswick, St. Marys and Fernandina Beach. Brunswick was the worst.
Enjoy Jacksonville. I loved it when I lived there. I really enjoyed going out on a boat in the St. Johns and going fishing, then downtown to the Landing. Good times.

I've only been once but enjoyed Jacksonville.

I got my wife's engagement ring from Miriam's in Jax Beach. My wife's cousin owns the store on South 3rd St. and they have some incredible stuff... ask for Leah if you ever make out that way.

Come on down a little to Julington Creek. St Johns county schools are some of the best in the state. 12 A schools 5 B schools and none lower than a C. :good!:

My daughter goes to Julington Creek Elementry. Here's a link for St Johns County Schools
