Yep. I got into a couple of years ago after looking into Buddhism and its principles.
Your snowflake joke had me wondering if there was truth to it. Check out my brother-in-law's art:

he's fixing to upgrade his website, but you get the point.
Most Christian denominations were formed under the idea that God's love was a gift that didn't need to be paid for or earned by good deeds. Baptists often times defend that ideal while simultaneously espousing the importance of doing good deeds to gain salvation. That's an issue I have with a lot of churches. They seem very willing to waive their theological beliefs as long as it is convenient and economical.
One of my biggest problems with my church is that they teach a 10% tithe and that if you pay it before you take care of you and yours, the Lord will bless you. I believed this. I was below the poverty line paying tithing. I can't believe they tell this nonsense to the truly impoverished, with kids...it's flat out immoral.
I am a proud member of Long Hollow Baptist.
We are a mega church where people come in wearing baseball hats sometimes and no one has a problem with it. Our last preacher (David Landrith who passed away in 2014) was a very humble man and wore jeans and a plaid shirt most times while preaching.
I believe our budget is somewhere around 12 million per year but they show exactly where the funds are going at all times so we can see the work that is being done with our tithes. Our church supports an orphanage in Haiti and multi other works.
I also believe the 10% tithing should not be the problem as long as it is cleat where the money is going at all times.

the whole 10% tithing has been taught for years, yet it's been taken out of context. the 10% was commanded towards Israel. it was part of the old testament covenant with Israel and does not apply today.
Agreed. I've never heard a Baptist sermon espousing good deeds as a means toward salvation.
I had never heard this before. Been a long time since I read it, but wasn't tithing featured in the Book of Acts, including a couple who got struck down for faking a full tithe?
