Reggie White was dominant

I guess as time has passed I’d forgotten just how much of a force he was at getting to the quarterback. It’s amazing just how much better his sack numbers are compared to the other best pass rushers of all time.

I looked at his career numbers and while he’s two sacks behind Bruce Smith for the for the most all time, those numbers basically tell the same sorry. Not just that he was dominant, but just how impressive his sack numbers are compared to the other elite pass rushers of all time. It’s crazy.

Could you imagine how many sacks he would have today with there being so much more passing in the league now.....

I had no idea he had the most sacks of any player in their first five years in the league. These are some dominant players on this list and he's 20 sacks ahead of Richard Dent at No. 5. Crazy.

Awesome! That D with the Eagles was fun to watch!

Don't forget, his first two pro years were in the USFL. He had 23.5 sacks with Memphis which are never mentioned in his totals. Forget Bruce Smith. Reggie is the GOAT. Period.

He was quite an athlete, he played intramural hoops for the Lakers, which was the team name for the football players back then. At center, nobody was gonna move him in the paint....

Opponent has first and ten. Reggie. Reggie. Reggie. Opponent has fourth and twenty-one and the punter behind the long snapper.

He also spent his first two professional seasons in the USFL or else his career sack record would’ve been virtually untouchable. Bruce Smith stuck around wayyy after his prime just so he could break the record. I think Smith played a total of 19 years in the NFL and Reggie logged 14 years, not including the season with Carolina after he came out of retirement. He averaged nearly 14 sacks per season for 14 years... Think about that for a moment. He was one of a kind and I don’t think we will ever see another one like him. The only other defensive player in modern football that could dominate like Reggie was Lawrence Taylor. I still consider Reggie the GOAT whenever it comes to defense though.

I heard Reggie speak in person at my school. He spoke to a bunch of 7th and 8th graders. Told us he rode his talent until his Jr year, and only then did he get serious with work ethic. He regretted what could have been in college had he focused earlier.

Worth remembering — Reggie died at 43. A tragically early end to a beautiful life.

Who was better Lawrence Taylor or Reggie White? I still can’t believe Reggie has been gone 16 years now nearly he died way too young one of the best Vol players ever.

As just a pure player? Lawrence Taylor. The argument could easily be made that LT is the GOAT of NFL. I mean the guy completely changed how OLs had to scheme. If you couldn’t block LT you couldn’t beat the Giants. Think Von Miller but much quicker, stronger and harder to contain.

My brother in law played Little League with Reggie in Chattanooga. He said he was one of the nicest kids and a friend to everyone

Reggie played inside a lot. With the Eagles, he even played some nose guard in Buddy Ryan’s trick defense. Taylor was basically a weak side DE. Beat a lot of RBs for his sacks.

My favorite RW play was vs. LSU. Dalton Hilliard was just getting the handoff a couple yds behind the LOS to go off-guard and immediately got Mack-trucked by Reggie. I was watching this in a pizza place in Baton Rouge and yelled so loud, thought I was gonna get jumped.

Um before beating those RBs he also beat LTs and many double teams. LT completely changed the way OLs had to block.

Lewis back to pass, and he is going to be SACKED!!! The ball is rolling around, and it has been recovered by TENNESSEE!! Who's that coming out of there with the ball? Ladies and gentlemen, it is Reginald White!! White! Makes the sack, and the strip! Then the scoop!, Bill Andersen!

Two quotes, from Hall of Famers

Erik Williams, OT Dallas Cowboys: "I've faced Reggie, many times, in my career. I can't ever remember winning even one time, against him. We basically were turned into a left-handed team".
Mike Ditka, Coach of The Chicago Bears: "Reggie White is the only player, in all my years of playing, and coaching, that can take an entire side of the field away from your offense".
