Dear Volnation,
I'm drinking the Kiffin Kool-aid now but my biggest fear from the new staff is that they will get us in trouble with the NCAA
Can anyone answer this question?
Was Kiffin and O in charge of USC recruiting when Reggie Bush was living in a 3500k a month condo in LA?
I think i know the answer just want to verify.
thanks for any help

My biggest fear is too many chiefs and not enough indians, with three former and current head coaches.

Thanks to the folks that tried to answer without being jerks. Getting pretty sad round here when Cal fans have more manners than our own.

You came on the board yesterday and did 2 things. In 1 thread you fawned all over a current LSU Coach. In another thread you expressed fear that the new Vols coaching staff might get us in trouble with the NCAA even though they have never been in trouble elsewhere.

I am sorry if our responses caused your feelings to be hurt but, IMO, you brought some of it on yourself.

Pretty sure the whole Reggie Bush debacle was only with him and a guy trying to be a sports agent. I saw the program on ESPN when they aired it either last NFL season, or two ago. The gist of the whole ordeal was that this upstart agent told Bush he would give him a car and 15k a month in spending cash if he would be Bush's agent come draft day. His story was that Bush kept asking for more. A better car, more money per month, etc. Until he finally asked for a house for his parents to live in by campus. He bought it, and co-signed with Bush's mother. They lived there, and then draft day came, and Bush backed out of the deal and went with a real agent. They settled out of court a year or two later.

So the whole issue was never with USC and their "recruiting" practices. It was with Reggie himself, and an outside person.

Anytime VolRock.

Also here is a huge link to the whole situation. The guy I remember being the "agent" his name was Lloyd Lake. He was a small time hood from the LA area I think. Trying to make it big after prison if I remember right.

Cash and carry - Reggie Bush Investigation - Yahoo! Sports

Its very very indepth and a long read. I just skimmed it, since I remembered most of the stuff from the little section aired on ESPN.

In Meat Market (the book detailing Orgeron's recruiting at OM) Orgeron stressed that his assistants not violate any rules. He knew if they pulled in the kind of recruits they wanted that some questions would be asked as to how they got them. All of these assistants are known as good recruiters that know they'll be looked at under a microscope so I doubt we'll have any trouble. With the staff and facilities we have there isn't really a need to take a chance on recruiting violations. If a recruit doesn't come to UT for the right reasons I don't want them anyway.

USC didn't have bama fans searching for a reason to cry foul. A coach here must be way more careful.
