There has NEVER been a game in Neyland like the 1982 Alabama game. I have been going to games since 1965 and not one of any of the big games before or since then can match the intensity, emotions, or loudness of that game.
One of my greatest moments as a Vol fan was watching that drunk legend of a coach walk out of Neyland as a loser and headed to the Liberty Bowl.

Eh ... been going since 1974 myself and ... it was a great game, but there have been several since that have rivaled it.

I suspect you haven't watched a UT football game since or don't plan on watching the 2022 matchup.

Rivaled, yes. But not the same.

I have an ashtray made from the goalposts that came down that day. It was a great environment that I loved, but I’ve heard it louder and seen just as much excitement since. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I have never heard Neyland as loud and rocking as 84’ Auburn or 90’ Notre Dame after we recovered the onside kick, 98’ UF was right up there too. It’s all in the eyes of the beholder, to each their own.

Maybe we this game can do for Saban what it did for Bear...send to retirement. And, just like 1982, goalposts get a tour thru UT campus!

Was at the game and yeah, it was loud and exciting. I'd put the 1985 Auburn game ahead of it, though. Nationally televised game (which was a big deal before cable), Tigers with no. 1 ranking and was expected to showcase Bo Jackson. T Rob had other ideas ...

I’d honestly put 1998 Arkansas over Florida. Both were great though. Here’s why I say Arkansas. It’s pretty rare to see 2 undefeated teams play in November. It happens once every few years across all of college football. 18 point comebacks are pretty uncommon too. I’d say you get a handful each year across all of college football but each team probably only does it about once every 5-7 years if I had to guess. A play like the Stoerner fumble happening in the last 2 minutes when they simply needed a single first down to win is rare. Something like that happens in that situation maybe once a year in all of college football and would happen to a team like once every 15-20 years. That game had all 3 of those things. 2 8-0 teams playing in November, we came back from down 21-3 and most people thought the game was over when we gave the ball back to Arkansas with less than 2 minutes to go. Add to that, we had just gone to #1 that week and it was a cold, rainy day and I knew when that game happened that I’d never see another UT game like that in my lifetime. Florida was great but if that same thing happened against Georgia that year then it’s just a great game and nothing more. Really, the Florida and Syracuse games are similar, it’s just that Florida is looked back on so fondly because it’s Florida.

Wasn’t at the 82 game but I was at the 85 game. Thought the student section stands were going to fall. What a game. What an experience.

I get your point….but I would clarify that BOTH legendary coaches at that game were pretty well adept at imbibing the whiskey 😉. But Johnny was likable

Just to be sure, which drunk legend are you talking about, Bear or Johnny? Ha, seriously, that was an awesome game in that it ended the streak and proved CJM had the program going in the right direction.

As I've said MANY times before...I was there, too...helped carry the goal post down to The Last Lap...

I just WISH I could be there THIS Saturday...to see Tennessee put ANOTHER Bammer Coach Legend 6 feet into the GROUND!

It would be JUST as satisfying...if not MORE considering the last 21 years of heartache.

If we're gonna bring Florida into this...
Meanwhile 1992 raises it's hand! I was there when lightning hit in the upperdecks! When the Squall hit Neyland and all hell broke lose!
