Refs Delaying the Game

Bingo. I don't get that either.

Butch is our zook.

I am truly beginning to feel this way.

I think he will leave us a stable of quality recruits and the new coach will keep Shoop but I do think the next AD axes him at the end of next year.

His only option is to get a new OL coach and OC next year or he is gone.

Unfortunately, we will not be as quick to ditch him as Florida was Zook. If Butch can't win the SEC east this year, he is not our guy and we need to move on. He can't blame time/talent because we have more talent than Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina and their coaches are much newer in establishing their systems than Butch.

If he was buzzed before the play started, it doesn't matter if the play was run or not.

It's happened plenty of times in college football.

He never made a motion or attempt to stop play. The ball was spotted before anyone made a mention of replaying the previous play.

More people need to realize this. The buzz down can happen whenever, but if the next play has been run (which we had done) and the referee has not stopped the play, then there is no replay.

I've got bad news.

The no TD call was right.
The targeting call was right.
The reversal on the Josh Smith sliding catch was right.
The false start call was right.
The referee delaying our snaps was right.

Only missed call I saw all night was they missed a block in the back on the long App State punt return.

I thought the targeting call was weak. I don't mind the PF, but to eject him when he had turned his head making every effort to avoid helmet to helmet seemed excessive.

The no TD was correct.

The reversal on Josh Smith's catch was the correct call, but why did they do the review after we had run a play? I think we should have gotten away with one...

I didn't really have a problem with the officiating, we just weren't catching the breaks.

As for Butch being our Zook... I'm not there yet. Next week will be more telling. I expect a much better showing because I think Va Tech has been the focus and the team and coaches overlooked Appy St. I got the feeling that there really wasn't a whole lot of effort put into this game plan.

Careful GaVol. Making too much sense.

Targeting play was called correct, but it's still a bad rule imo.

I think the Josh Smith situation is right. I'd cry all day if the other team got away with it, so I'm fine with the rule now.

Like GaVol said, the only really noticeable call imo was the block in the back. Other than that, not that bad.

It's happened plenty of times in college football.

That situation is not common at all. I watch a ton of college football and I can only remember this happening twice, both times to Tennessee.

Usually a ref will run in with his arms waving to stop the play, indicating he has been buzzed that a replay has been requested. Often this happens as the ball is being snapped or maybe even a split second after the snap.

In our situation no ref made any attempt to blow the whistle or do anything to stop the next play - before, during, or even directly after. In fact, some of the refs were moving to respot the ball so we could run another play, before one ref announced that the play before the previous play was under review.

I'm willing to bet you don't see that again this season.
