There’s coachspeak and there’s playerspeak, and there’s been plenty of both from Butch Jones’ program this fall. But when Reeves-Maybin talks, you’re wise to listen. The Vols do.

A left shoulder reinjured in the season’s third game robbed the UT defense of a primary playmaker, but not of a leader. And that is most rare, a player who can command respect in the locker room when he isn’t performing on the field. Shoot, it’s hard for someone who isn’t playing well to lead.

Yet in a players-only meeting after the loss at South Carolina that ultimately killed this team’s chances of winning the SEC East, Reeves-Maybin took charge, did some calling out, declared that things were going to change. Since that meeting, the Vols (8-3, 4-3 SEC) have three straight blowout wins and still could land in the Sugar Bowl if they can beat the Commodores (5-6, 2-5) for the third straight time.

“I’ve kind of always had that in me,” the usually-smiling Reeves-Maybin said. “I’ve always thought that some day I would end up going into coaching.”

This guy will go down for me as an all timer. He's up there with the Al Wilson's, Eric Berry's, Raynoch Thompson's of our football program. I hate that his Vol career was cut short, hopefully he will have success in the NFL and anything else he does.

A true leader, that demands respect, whether he is playing or not. A personal all-time favorite

He can be Tee Martin's defensive coordinator, Jim Bob Cooter Offensive coordinator. Boom

I will always deeply appreciate both JRM and Cam for coming back this year despite it not going the way they wanted. Can't wait to see them on Sundays next year.

I would like to say the same, but I stopped watching the NFL years ago with the exception of last year's Super Bowl so I could see Peyton go out the right way. NFL is pretty weak these days. Can't put my finger on the reason, it's simply not worth watching. Sadly college football is trying to make itself equally crappy with all the new rules.

I do appreciate the fact that Reeves-Maybin came back, trying to bring an SEC championship back to UT. I hope he gets a chance to play on Sunday's, but shoulder injuries have stopped slot of good linebackers from having long futures. Good luck young man!

One of these days need to change criteria for adding names to honor ring in Neyland. Maybe not JRM but folks like Fulmer, Majors, Holloway, etc.

No injuries and no attitudes - 11-1, SECCG & playoff-contender. '16 was our year.

Moral victory U? No. Just a bone-deep realization that you have to be at a minimum 2-deep (with A players) at every position to compete at the championship level.

Can't start threads so I found the most recent JRM thread.

Thought this was pretty cool if there's any other Gary V. Fans on here

Hold your horses. He's a good guy be he did not single handedly change the outcome of any game

Do not blame him, but that now means he can not come back next year by using medical redshirt he was considering right?
