Wouldn't surprise me at all if we end up with two 1st-team All-SEC LBs this year.

Kirkland and Cameron Smith seems like stars from that class. I am glad we have one of those. Will hear his name called a whole lot this season and I think he'll thrive in the new defense.

Do you notice in these articles that it's usually one player complementing or encouraging another? I've felt we've had a team for the past couple of years but the team spirit seems especially strong this year. This team is going to be special!

Most impressive aspect about Kirkland to this point is his mind.

It's so rare to see a true freshman step right in to an SEC-level defense and just..."get it" right away. No real mental blunders, knew the playbook front to back, even helped others get lined up correctly at times. His mind is special.

I've made this argument a million times. The NFL exposes guys. It tells us who was successful in college because of the talent around them versus those that were held back by the talent around them.

Tebow being the perfect example. That guy was a product of a system and superior talent that surrounded him. Take away the superior teammates surrounding him and he was exposed as a below average football player.

The NFL exposes who can really play and who can't.

I think Kirkland could end up being better than AJ Johnson when it is all said and done. I think Kirkland's ability for pass coverage is leaps and bounds than from AJ.
