Redshirts

well we didnt really have any significant redshirts this season that we could tell if they would make an impact because i believe most of them were freshman... but we had a lot of injuries this season and these players should step up next season and make an impact...

CB- Rashaun Fellows, Inky Johnson

Remember JT Mapu went on a church mission or something like that for two years and hadnt lifted a weight and tried to get out there and play but his body was shocked by the immediate football contact and he was injured this season

- We were missing two offensive line starters in both losses to FLA and Penn State, and we didnt have our starting QB in a 4 point loss to LSU

-And with all that our only other loss came to Arkansas who were on a high at that point and it was at Ark.

-the main thing that we need to focus on is not redshirts but just guys who can make plays and staying healthy, and i believe if we stay healthy this year we can win with the regulars and we are also bringing in big play guys in this recruiting class

and also with jt mapu on the defensive line and freshman help that should solve our problem on the defensive front

well on the vols roster on their website it lists him as a junior

it isn't about him being a junior, it is about his injury being too severe for him to EVER play again. I still had not seen anything definite either way though. I thought he still had surgeries lined up for a while and a final decision would be made based on how his body responded. Did I miss an announcement from the team or something?

o ok, that explains it, well that gives Berry the opportunity to step in and start right away because i believe hefney will play the safety position next season

I'm with you, I hadn't heard anything official either. However, considering the severity of the injury, I would imagine that rehab will be extensive and his recovery would essentially put him out for the '07 season.

Trust me his injury is very very severe. He has really bad nerve damage in his shoulder. He'll go through physical therapy for years, and he still probably won't be back to normal.

There was an article (I think on utsports.com) that said that his playing career is over, but he would remain a part of the team is some way while he finishes his education.

Inky won't be playing football for the Vols anymore. We'll be lucky if he can even make a full recovery.

What about Quentin Hancock? Was he allowed to redshirt with his small amount of playing time?

I'm not sure about this list but here goes;

Chad Cunningham - K
Quinton Hancock - WR (might have played to much)
Ramone Johnson - OL
Daniel Lincoln - K
Darius Myers - OL
Jarrod Shaw - DL
Nick Stephens - QB
Luke Stocker - TE
Victor Thomas - DL
and
Cody Pope - OL
Brent Vinson - ATH

I know the last two are technically not redshirts but they are close.

I don't recall Hancock playing at all... if he did it was early in the season. Did Rogers end up getting to use a redshirt for 2006?

I haven't seen anything about a possible medical redshirt for Rogers as far as a decision by the NCAA.
