Recruits talk about possibility of Gruden

I have no idea what kind of a college coach Gruden would be, but his #1 issue in Tampa was the salary cap.

They certainly have sucked out loud since firing him, that's for sure.

Didn't seem to have the same effect on Monte's defense.....how can Grubage get a pass for having an atrocious offense under "the salary cap", when Monte was putting a top 10 product on the field for the same exact team??

After the Super Bowl, much of Tampa's money got locked up in veterans on the defensive side of the ball. Thus the defense stayed top-notch, while Gruden was at time trying to piece together an offense from spare parts.

Believe me, I'm not at all sold on the idea of Gruden as a college coach. But I'm a fan of a team that plays in the same division as Tampa. Their biggest problem was the roster.

Gruden took over TB after Tony Dungey was fired. Brought in Monte Kiffin & drafted great defensive players, which carried the team to a Super Bowl win. Then the house of cards fell as the offense was horrid. Fans became bored, then angry. Would Gruden take the solid base Dooley has built & make it into a winner? Maybe. But what's the long range solution? Dunno. Many $millions$ riding on this scenario. Who'll pony up?

While I agree with you in principle, it must be stated that Monte was brought in by Dungy in 1996. Also, the drafting of the great defensive players actually started under Sam Wyche with the 1995 draft (Warren Sapp, R1 P12 and Derrick Brooks, R1 P28). If you wanna add Ronde Barber into the mix (which I do), he was in the 1997 draft (Dungy and Kiffin), R3 P66.

And still they canned Dungy.. wonder why? Oh yeah, he wasn't winning.

I remember in Dooley's first months here, the "fans" on here were saying the same thing about him. "What if Dooley bails to UGA on us like Kiffy did".....Think there is a chance of that happening now?

I don't think La Tech would take Dooley back.
