On Doug Matthews Show this morning he said ....
-he understands UT has 26 commitments right now, but not all are the ones we all see on paper/via recruiting services
-said there are 4-6 that are currently verbally committed that will not wind up signing... didn't say who
-Said the 26 that he understands are committed right now INCLUDES... 1. The Berry twins 2. Charles Mosley 3. Cory Thomas
Thought that was all very interesting. Sure I wasn't the only one listening. Anybody hear it this way and/or hear additional stuff that I didn't recall here?
Edit: remembered a couple extra comments.....
1. Butch is recruiting a QB this class, understanding that the "highest rated" QBs are already committed
2. Would like to sign another RB for depth
3. Doug feels good about 10 or so big guys signed right now.... combo of OL and DL.... but those positions continue to be the biggest positions of need to be recruited by the staff.
I heard it. Your post is pretty accurate from what I remember.
He said he thinks Butch would like to sign around 13 lineman, which is three more than we have committed, by his count. Of those three, he cited OT and DT as the biggest needs.
He also mentioned Butch wanting one more linebacker.

His information was very specific and bold. Who on here has said that we do have 26 commits but it's not the 26 we all see on paper right now? No one. Havent seen anybody say 4-6 recruits currently committed wont be a part of the '14 Class.
Also, I'd say near 99% of us just assumed there will be no QB in this class... again, he says Butch is still very much recruiting that position for '14.
He's up there regularly, references that he speaks with Coach Jones on a fairly regular basis. I think he's credible... guess we'll know for sure in about 4 months.
I was just joking but since you asked I think a lot people on here believe the twins are silents and have believed that for months. Obviously many people do not believe K. Jackson will be in this class. Charles Mosley is well connected to this class. I can't speak about Thomas. I haven't really followed his thread but I've gathered he seems to want us pretty bad. There have been 3 gray shirt candidates suggested here and some believe we could lose at least one of our lb commits. We also have read the reports on the QB search.
I guess I didn't see a lot of news in what was reported. I didn't mean to offend anyone and I was joking and I agree with you, we'll know for sure who's in and who's not is less than 4 months now. :hi:
No offense taken at all. Just wanted to share what I'd heard and my opinion, for what's worth, on the credibility of that info. The give and take and sharing of opinions is what makes this forum fun.
I'm looking hard and I can't seem to find 4-6 that won't be here. Jackson, I guess Bryant is a grades concern, maybe Moseley and Dews but why accept the Moseley commitment so late if you're just gonna dump him?
SN: I can't see it happening but I guess Paulk could be a concern given his injury.
If someone takes a grey shirt they're not technically in this class so Dews, Moseley, & Paulk I think are the most often thought of candidates for a grey shirt. I don't know that any of them will be a grey shirt but like I said I think those are 3 candidates that have most often been suggested.
There's no way in hell the staff is telling any of the legacies to look somewhere else so that takes out 4 (Creamer, Wharton, Kelly and Bates). Hurd, Blair, Helm, Gaulden, McDowell, Payne, Barnett, Weathered, Booth, Mouhon are all unanimously considered elite talents. That's 10 more. We aren't turning away instant DL help (Lambert) or OL (Raulerson, Thomas and Brown) which is 4 more. We need a kicker (Medley) and Henderson is a beast, which is 2 more. That's 20. That leaves us with Bryant (beast but grades may be an issue), Paulk (beast but injury could be an issue), Wolf (things have been quiet from him, don't see any reason he won't be here), Jackson (he gone in my opinion), Dews (likely GS) and Moseley (sounds really good but could be replaced with someone else).
Rough breakdown that leaves 6 guys as possibilities, although Jackson is really the only one I'm fairly confident won't be apart of the class.
If anyone else has an opinion on it let me know what you think.

I agree. Why do you think Jackson will not be a part of this class. What about Garrett, Pearson, and any others you think we might land or not. I have faith in the staff to close deals and will not panic about losses.
Recruiting talk in August through to NSD. Wow. Puts grey in your hair for sure. Very addictive.
Brent Hubbs, of Volquest.com, was quoted by another poster as saying that [Kameel Jackson] currently is "not playing for Blinn [Community College]. Some say he was dismissed from the team. Others suggest it's a misunderstanding. Right now, I would lean towards him not being a Vol" (post 827 of http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-recruiting/74559-14-juco-tx-wr-kameel-jackson-56.html).
