These guys (and others I'm sure I left out) have Tennessee high on their list...But what will it take to get them to commit to us instead of any where else? A winning season? Our new facilities? Playing time opportunities? I want to do whatever it takes to get these guys to come help CBJ turn this program around.

All of these are important: wins, PT, facilities, & fans but I would rank wins and PT at the top of these 4.

At most upper end schools the facilities are comparable. As far as fan support, again, in the South college football is supreme. Yes, UT has the largest stadium but it is rarely full anymore. So does that diminish UT's fan support? I don't think so. There's still a ton of people that show up on Saturdays.

money, house for your parents, tractor....things we dont offer but bama does, kentucky does for hoops and obviously auburn and ole miss 10 years ago.....
So we continue to be honest (minus kiffin) and we will miss out on kids.....
The moral of the story is keep on playing by the rules and do the right thing...and believe in CBJ.

There as an extensive study conducted about 4-5 years ago that looked at what motivated recruits to pick a particular school and at the end of the day, mama's cookin won out as the most influential factor for most recruits. Not the only factor of course, but for most recruits its the most important.

A little off topic, but did anyone get a chance to listen to Bill King's show on XM this morning? Very interesting topic was discussed about D1 recruits and professional athletes.

It will take them believing what Jones is selling. His approach will probably be different for different recruits. Some of them want to see how his team competes. Some would see a bad season as an opportunity to be a 4 years starter.

Part of the art of being a great salesman is recognizing what is valuable to the person you want to sell to.... then offering it in an irresistable way.

I think that study has been repeated recently. The end result is that around 80% of recruits end up going to a school within a half-days drive from their home.

So generally a school rises and falls on the talent within that radius. This has its up side for UT because it includes the western half of North Carolina, the western 2/3 of South Carolina, north Georgia including Atlanta, middle and east TN, north Alabama, east Kentucky, Virginia and parts of Ohio.

As a general rule this means that Tennessee should not focus much energy on Florida. I think that was the conclusion of some of the more recent data, anyway.

IMHO, I think the single largest factor will be how we do once the season starts. Granted we have a very tough schedule, and wins will come at a premium. Wins will be primary; however, if we can stay in every game until the end, that will weigh pretty heavy. Yes, we did that against UGA and USCe last year. But if they see a winning attitude from this entire team, at least win 1 or maybe 2 we shouldn't, show we're almost there, maybe some of these guys will grasp on that, and think that they will/can be the difference to turn things around for 2014, maybe it reels some in. Still recruiting is a crap shoot as always, unless Satan coaches your team.
